The majority of stakeholder groups under the Ghana Boxing Authority, consisting of th United Boxing Coaches Association of Ghana, Boxing Managers Association of Ghana, Boxing Promoters Association of Ghana, Professional Boxing Ring Officials of Ghana, Boxing Matchmakers & Agents Association of Ghana and Veteran Boxers Association of Ghana in a letter signed by their various leadership has rejected the GBA July 12, 2025 set date for its Elective Congress and demand accountability.
The letter dared 19th May, 2025 was addressed to the GBA President and copied to the Minister of Sports & Recreation, the Director General of the NSA as well as all the GBA elected members.
The letter demands the recomposition of the GBA Board to be in conformity to the GBA Constitution, indicating that the current formation is in inconsistent with the GBA Constitution which will have its repercussions on the elective congress and therefore steps needed to be taken to avoid such an event.
They demanded an audience with the GBA leadership in order to streamline its actions to be in line with the constitution to avoid any possible legal action from any member or whatsoever.
One of their major concerns is about accountability as the GBA under the leadership of the Abraham Kotei Neequaye has failed to account to the stakeholders the activities of the GBA for almost four (4) years now.
They also believe without recomposition of the current board to be in conformity with the GBA constitution, the outcome of the Elective Congress could be challenged since all the immediate past board members have a voting right and as the current composition of the board is inconsistent (with more than co-opted members required by the constitution), the Elective Congress outcome could be nullified by any court of competent jurisdiction if challenged.
The letter was signed by the following personalities for their respective Association under the committee (Committee for Professional Boxing Stakeholders -CPBS);
Alhaji Moshud Zaid, Ag. Chairman for the Committee & President - Boxing Managers Association of Ghana, Mr. Charles Quartey - President, United Boxing Coaches Association of Ghana, Mr. Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye, President - Boxing Promoters Association of Ghana, Mr. Abdul Rasheed Williams, President - Boxing Matchmakers & Agents Association of Ghana, Mr. Roger Barnor, GBA 2nd Vice President & President - Boxing Ring Officials Association of Ghana and last but not the least, Mr. Razak Agorza, President - Veteran Boxers Association of Ghana.
They were also of the view that an Extraordinary Congress would afford the GBA leadership to account for their stewardship over the past four (4) years and if the need be to adopt any recommendations made by the recent Committee set up by the Hon. Minister of Sports & Recreation following the unfortunate demise of the Nigerian Boxer who involved in a boxing bout in Ghana on the 29th March, 2025 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Following a challenge call by UBO Africa Lightweight Champion Joseph Commey aka 'Jaguar' who won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games to Samuel Takyi aka 'Ring Warrior' bronze medalist at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, former boxer turned promoter Ayitey Powers has cautioned the Takyi stop bragging by saying he is of a different level and fight the best in the country before he can go to the continent and the world.
Ayitey Powers, President of Voice of Professional Boxers said he is prepared to promote the bout and place 20,000ghc for each boxer to give Ghanaian boxing fans a good show.
"If Takyi feels Box Office Promotions is associated with Commey, I will promote it because the people of Ghana want to see good fights by good boxers" he said.
Ayitey Powers supported the call by former IBF world champion, Joshua Clottey that local boxers can become better and learn a lot if they fight among themselves at home to determine the best boxers who can go outside and perform.
Ayitey Powers aka Michael Nii Ayitey Okine mentioned a host of Ghanaian boxers who were expected to become world champions but the dream was not fulfilled like Raymond Narh, Gbese Tyson Odoi, James Armah aka Bukom Fire, Alfred 'Stingy Bee' Tetteh, Alex Baba, Anyetei Laryea, Sackey Soldier, 'Malik Golden Boy' Jabir and himself.
According to Ayitey Powers he has paid his dues by fighting in foreign rings where the Ghana National anthem is played and he felf proud as an ambassador but he was not able to grab the world title because it is not easy.
"To become a world champion is not by mouth but performance and fighting the best" said Powers who fought Joshua Clottey and was one of the crowd pullers.
The advised that fixed or arranged bouts known in local palance as 'Atsiagbeshie' must stop because it does not offer the opportunity to display well and give out best boxing.
He advised Takyi to take on Commey if he believes he is on the route to become a world champion because they are young boxers who will attract many fans and experience to move into other rings without fear or favour.

Welterweight boxer, Isaac Commey and his management have called on the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) to give fair verdicts and decisions to encourage good boxers.
Commey who fought Isaac Aryee on May 10th said for the second time he has been robbed the opportunity to celebrate his toils in training and performances.
Speaking to Yours Truly in an exclusive interview he cited his marvelous performance against Isaac Aryee at the Bukom Boxing Arena on the Box Office Promotions Bill which the referee Richard Amevi topped the fight following his piercing punches on his opponent in round three.
"As I was about to celebrate, it was announced that the GBA will decide later on who won, I was really shocked and amazed, such occurrences can discourage boxers but it will rather make me stronger and I will come back again because I must win a title for Ghana, that is my target and ambition in life" he expressed.
Also known as King of the Jungle, he revealed his affection for fighting and often engaged in other combat sports like K1, Jujitsu, Judo, Kick boxing, Muay Thai, MMA and Wrestling.
The warrior from Shiabu near Chorkor noted that boxing or sports is guided by rules and regulations so it must be applied.
The Teacher who loves reading and all kinds of food but his favourite is beans aka 'Gorgbe'.
His idol boxers are Mike Tyson, Azumah Nelson, Floyd Mayweather and Terrance Crawford.
Commey was sanctioned after head butting Sampson Segbedzi on November 24, 2924 for the National and UBO Welterweight Championship where he claimed his glove and hand were bitten by Segbedzi.
However he has served his punishment, but wants a total overhauling of the boxing leadership to ensure fairness and make the sport attractive.
His trainer Coach George Abbey was also sad about the GBA stance and he sided with his boxer. He noted that the GBA President loves creating confusion while interfering in referees jobs.
Mr. Evans Bernie Johnson, manager of Isaac Commey said the interference by the President of the GBA, Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye during boxing bouts creates other problems and so he should stay back and monitor to ensure that Ghana Boxing is organising well with fair and accurate judgment by the officials.
"Boxing is about lose, draw or win and if we are treated bad when he have won clearly its not fair, because Commey threw more than ten unanswered punches to the head of Aryee and the referee came in so who was winning" he quizzed.
Commey has a record of ten fights with two defeats, but he has assured his supporters of no more lose but only sweet victories.
"I have learnt a lot to be much disciplined when I am boxing so I deserve fair treatment" he added.
