Ghana’s Olympic bronze medalist, Samuel Takyi will mount the ring in Nigeria to face Ugandan Usero Henry Oteba on April 18, 2025 in an international Lightweight contest.

The Ring Warrior as he is known said he will be stepping into the ring at the Balmoral Convention Center in VI, Lagos, Nigeria, for Chaos in the Ring.

“This isn’t just a fight, it’s my passion, my journey, and my chance to show everything I’ve been working for
He thanked Balmoral Group Promotion, Game Rush, and Bankhead Promotion for making this event to happen.

He prayed for greater collaboration and friendship between Ghana, Nigeria, and the world.

“I’m coming ready for war” he expressed.

Ghana's Felix Ajom lost the chance to win the WBO Africa Super Featherweight (Junior Lightweight) title at the  AC Boxing Bonanza in Namibia.

He was beaten.in round 4 by homeboy Flame "The Special One" Nangolo who delivered a stunning 3rd-round knockout against Ghana’s Felix Ajom to claim the WBO Africa super featherweight title.

The Ghanaian, whose record stood at 20 wins (17 knockouts) and two points-losses, had never been knocked out before and had won his last nine fights in a row since February 2019.

Flame's record is now 13-0 (5 KOs) – The unbeaten streak continue.

The bill was to honour former head of state Dr. Sam Nugoma.

Ghanaians who showed up include Coach Carl Lokko, Referee Roger Barnor and Samir Captan the African Representative of WBO.

The National Sports College (NSC)–Winneba, in collaboration with the National Sports Authority (NSA), have successfully concluded a four-day certificate course in Sports Psychology at the Accra Sports Stadium. The program, which focused on the importance of mental resilience in athletic performance, attracted seventy participants from the sports industry and institutions. 

Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, encouraged participants to apply their knowledge to support athletes, emphasizing the role of psychological training in overcoming challenges like stage fright and intimidation. NSA Acting Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah praised the initiative as a historic step toward enhancing sports development in Ghana. 

Facilitated by Dr. Elvis Hagan Jnr. and Dr. Medina Srem-Sai, the course addressed Ghana’s need for psychological training in sports. Given its success, organizers plan to hold another session later in the year to further promote mental training in athletics.

Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Olusewagun Olanrewaju (13 -8-2) met his untimely death on Saturday March 29, 2025 when he was fighting Ghana's Jon Power Mbanugu in an international (under card) contest on the Ghana Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra. .

In the interesting bout which saw both boxers sizing each other and delivering good jabs, Olusewagun who is 40 years old went back all of a sudden when no punch has hit him and fell on the ropes leading to the canvas.

Ring side doctor and the referee Richard Amevi had to rush in to remove the gum shield from his mouth and call for assistance to put him in an ambulance and take him to the Korlebu hospital nearby.

News that reached later said he has passed.

In fact it was very sad, because he was putting up a good show.

Gabriel Oluwasegun was a former National and West African light-heavyweight.

Yours Truly want to advise boxers to be well conditioned before taking up challenges to fight and they should stay very fit always checking on their Blood Pressure and other health issues frequently.

Jon Mbanugu (13-1-1) who was declared winner by a knock out said he was excited with the win, but sad on the way his opponent went down.

Jon aka Power, 22 has increased his record to 13 wins one draw and one lose.

A dedicated boxing enthusiast has appealed to boxing promoters and the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) to consider the security and safety of fans and guests who patronise boxing events at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Speaking to Yours Truly on The Big Fight Night on Omashi TV last Friday, Michy as she loves to be called made a passionate appeal to fans who disrupt or put in behaviours that causes abrupt end to fights to stop the unsporting acts.

She said boxing is a sport and an entertainment, like a show, so it must end or conclude on a good sound note.

She said many people want to watch boxing so organisers must make sure they consider the safety of the fans and officials.

"Boxing is an entertainment to me, because it is exciting and action packed. Our boxers are good and doing very well. We need world champions. I commend the promotions, but they must tighten security and allow gentle people only entry into the venue" she said.

Michy who loves music, dancing and singing is a young entrepreneur and operates in business, tourism, leisure, hospitality and entertainment.

She added that boxing is a tourism commodity and Ghana and the boxing investors can reap if they sow on good soil.

Her hobbies are dancing and trading.

Quizzed if she will keep on watching boxing in spite of the violent scenes, she replied positively, and advised promoters to organise events that do not take long and close in the morning.

“I love boxing, it is great entertainment, I appeal to the authorities to maintain discipline and order to make the sport marvelous, we, the ladies Accra love boxing” she expressed.

She commended Omashi TV for promoting traditional values, the Ga language and Boxing, which is the number one sport among the people of Ga Mashie.

PGA Ghana has commenced the year 2025 with a new objective. The executives have appointed a very steward golf personality in the person of Hans De Beer as their president.

The appointment is based on the backdrop of the support and good work that Hans De Beer has demonstrated toward the association and the golfing fraternity for more than a decade. In his first meeting as president of PGA Ghana on 25th February 2025, he together with the executives unanimously settled on UK based golfer Alhaji Ahmed Padori as vice-president of the association.

He urged the entire PGA body in the country to gladly come on board and work toward the upliftment of professional golf in Ghana.

Hans De Beer has also put down the following key indicators to help him succeed in his quest to improve the growth and sustainability of the association. He has tasked Alhaji Ahmed Padori to form some various committees to strengthen the aims and objectives during his tenure as the president of their noble association and as the benchmark to follow.

  1. Sponsorship committee:

The team is to look for potential sponsors to contribute to the sustainability of the four (4) flagship tournaments that have been organized for the last five years.

  1. Disciplinary committee: To make the association attractive to potential sponsors and other stakeholders, there should be a high standard and cohesion among members. This formation of this committee will be overseen by the vice-president.
  2. Order of merit committee The team is to bring out a new and efficient system to allocate points to professional golfers during the tournament to determine the best among the lot
  3. PGA Ghana will celebrate its @50th anniversary this year. A committee has also be put up for the planning which will be overseen by the Vice-president.

The president has also reiterated that Genser PGA Championship 2025 hopefully will be played at the Royal Golf club Kumasi to support HRM the King Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll vision for golf in the country.

The president also alluded that the total purse for this year is expected to be bigger than the last year to attract large contingents of foreign professional golfers not only from the sub-sahara countries but Africa as a whole.

Hans De Beer appealed with all individuals, business entrepreneurs, companies and multi- national companies to fulfil their community social responsibilities by supporting professional golf through sponsorships.

He also took this opportunity to extend his appreciation and gratitude to the entire members of PGA Ghana to give him and his vice-president the opportunity to serve them.

This year's 2025 Tizza Marathon is expected to attract higher patronage and create more fitness awareness and excitement.

With about three weeks to the historic football knockouts and marathon competitions from 16th to 18th of April participants are training and preparing.

The event includes a football knockout between the 12 teams and on the 19th of April, is the day for the grand marathon.

The following dignitaries have been invited to grace the occasion, Hon. Cletus Seidu Dapilah, MP. Jirapa constituency, Mr. Julius Angsomwine, P.E Coordinator Upper West Region, Mr. Abdul Razak Korah, Regional Director of Education, Upper West Region and Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. The Ambassador for the Tizza marathon is Akakia Atampuri of Ghana Prisons Service.

The planning committee led by ING. Gaspard Dordaa and the technical advisor Dr. Samuel Dery are playing a vital role for a successful competition to be organized. The two events are organized under the auspices of His Royal Higness, Nnaa Bawayele Naayele Dakurah lll,(Tizza Naa).

Exciting wonder kid juvenile boxer Prince The Buzz Larbi and his team have been invited to France for a training and exhibition camp at the Appollo Sporting Club 8 rue Edouard Lockroy 75011 Paris.

They are expected to arrive in Paris not later than 26th April, 2025 and return to their home country on the 10th May, 2025 to prepare for another youth games in the USA.

According to his dad Coach Dan Labie, they are very excited with the good news as they have been expecting and preparing feverishly at the Will Power Gym at James Town in Accra.

Prince The Buzz Larbie is the one who made juvenile boxing very attractive and now many kids are in the game.

The product of Prince De Henry Education Complex is also a role model and ambassador.

GBA President appeals for government and corporate support to win more continental titles

Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye, President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has appealed to the Minister of Sports and Recreation Hon Kofi Adams and CEOs of companies in Ghana for support to win world titles.

He observed that the success of GBA Presidents are determined by world titles however most of the popular boxers were ageing, so they came out with the Ghana Professional Boxing League which has been competitive and produced quality pugilists.

"We have passed the development stage and now ready to produce" he stressed.

He emphasised that there are more than 16 budding boxers who can take the nation to the bigger world stage.

Speaking at the seminar organised by Ace Power Promotions on Wednesday, he named some of the boxers who participated in the Boxing League as Charles Tetteh, Elvis Ahorgah, Cann Neequaye, Akimos Ampiah, Bismark Saah, George Faho Mensah, Africanus Neequaye, Jerry Lartey and others.

He said the GBA needs collaboration to clinch world titles working closely with promoters, boxers. matchmakers and sponsors.

He also addressed the issues of safety and security at the boxing arena calling on boxers to educate their fans and caution them.

Mr. Neequaye urged promoters to come out with attractive sellout packages for boxers to fight and entertain fans.

He promised that the security problems will be solved.

Other speakers at the seminar were Alex Ntiamoah Boakye, President of the Promotions Association, former IBF Bantamweight Champion Joseph Agbeko and Dr. Adae Opoku Amoako the founder of Ace Power Promotions, hosts of the seminar on 'Uplifting Ghana Boxing'.

Other speakers who contributed via zoom and viral sources were Gabriel Blinder, Andre Rozier, Eric Davis, Isaac Dogboe, Richard Commey and boxing journalist cum ring announcer Nat Attoh.

The programme was well attended by major stakeholders such as boxers, coaches, promoters, match makers, managers, publicists, journalists, medics and boxing fans.

The event which was well attended by boxers, coaches, referees, medics, promoters, managers, matchmakers, fans and journalists took place at Bukom Boxing Arena on Wednesday from 3pm to 10pm.

Stakeholders were encouraged to be professional, ethical and play positive roles to ensure improvements.

The seminar used viral and physical presence to communicate and achieved its objectives.

Dr. Addae - Opoku Amoako, founder of Ace Power Promotions commended the participants who were seeking knowledge and answers to make Ghana Boxing better.

Lawyer Kizito Akudago in his welcome address commended Ace Power Promotions for contributing a lot in developing and promoting boxing in Ghana.

The resource people courted from the United States and Ghana made revealing contributions.

Gabriel Blinder, CEO of Critical Sports Entertainment in America touched on the Legal part of Boxing, Knowledge of rules, Understanding scoring criteria, Understanding techniques, Awareness of Boxer safety, Impartiality and Objectivity, Management of fight flow. Communication skills, Physical fitness. Handling conflict and stress, Post fight responsibilities.

He said referees and judges are very essential in boxing.

Eric Davis of Davis Promotions tackled Understanding the Boxing Business, Legal Knowledge. Fighter Management and Relationships, Event Logistics. Marketing and Public Relations, Social Media impact, Financial Management, Audience Engagement, Risk Management, Understanding the Fighters needs, Ethical and Moral Responsibility.

Andre Rozier said boxing is one of the greatest sports but needs hard work and dedication to be involved. He touched on Fundamental Boxing Techniques, Conditioning and Fitness, Tactical and Strategic Training, Nutrition and Recovery

Sparing and Fight Simulation, Ethical Knowledge. He advised "The jab is everything, use it"

Former WBO Super Bantamweight Champion, Isaac Dogboe spoke about contracts, dos and don'ts, while Richard Commey touched on Tactics and Technical Conditioning. He noted that some boxer cannot adapt new techniques.

President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Mr. Abraham Neequaye said Ghana Boxing is always attractive and they are working on security and safety. He urged boxers to advise their fans and supporters to stop violence and hooliganism which is denting the image of Ghana Boxing.

Joseph Agbeko, former IBF Bantamweight Champion advised boxers to take up challenges if they want to become the best.

Media Personality, Nat Attoh urged the government to invest in boxing as it is the sport that has taken Ghana to the world. He charged boxing officials to be professional.

Nana Kofi Owusu touched on Nutrition and Weight Management, while Alex Ntiamoah Boakye shared experience on promoting big bouts and agreed that boxers should be paid well to fight.

Dr. Adae Opoku Amoako concluded by giving some education on the role of a Ringside Doctor and Boxers Health.

The programme continues with a health screening and boxing tournament at the Bukom Square Park where Ghana will host Nigeria in amateur boxing.
