In the heart of Cape Coast, during the recent interschools and inter-zones athletics competition, a moment unfolded that captured not just applause, but awe.

As the crowd hushed in anticipation, a young high jumper from St. Augustine’s College took to the field. In one graceful arc, Gilbert Ampiah soared over the bar and straight into the hearts of all who watched, not just as an athlete, but as an emblem of perseverance, courage, and possibility.

Now, that same young man is set to represent Ghana at the 2025 Para Athletics Meeting, and the nation could not be prouder.

For those privileged to witness his phenomenal performance in Cape Coast, Gilbert’s rise comes as no surprise. His determination, raw talent, and spirit were unmistakable.

But even more remarkable is the context: Gilbert is a para-athlete, and his journey to this point has not been paved with ease. It has been marked by grit, faith, and the unshakable belief that disability is not inability.

Gilbert Ampiah is a Form One General Arts student at St. Augustine’s College, studyingEconomics, Geography, Business Management, and Government.

He is also a proud member of St. John's House, one of the College’s historic and vibrant halls of residence. Balancing academic excellence with athletic prowess, Gilbert exemplifies the well-rounded ethos Augusco instills in its students.

As a proud alumnus of St. Augustine’s College — APSU '80 — and a lifelong lover of sports and inclusivity, I find Gilbert’s story profoundly moving. He stands as a beacon not only for the current generation of APSUnians but for Ghanaians everywhere who dare to dream beyond their circumstances.

At Augusco, we are bound by the motto “Omnia Vincit Labor” — Perseverance Conquers All. Gilbert Ampiah is living proof of this timeless truth.

His leap was more than a jump; it was a statement. A bold, defiant, and beautiful declaration that no limitation of the body can cage the will of the spirit.

As Gilbert prepares to step onto the global stage, we stand behind him — not only as APSUnians, but as a united Ghanaian family. Gilbert, we salute you. Your story uplifts, your talent inspires, and your courage reminds us that greatness often emerges from the most unexpected places.

Go, Gilbert. Soar higher. The world is watching — and cheering.

God bless you. God bless St. Augustine’s College. God bless Ghana.

The decision follows some alleged corruption practices by the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control's Secretary-General.

Members of WABU have accused Aboderin of gross misconduct, an accusation the WABU president has denied vehemently, insisting "they want to destabilize the boxing body".

The African Boxing Union (ABU) is expected to appoint an interim General Secretary in the coming days to oversee the subsequent activities of the Union.

The 2025 Annual General Meeting and Elections of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has been fixed for April 26. 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

As we entered the month of April, many candidates have showed up their head in readiness to contest to lead the Sports fraternity of Ghana, a nation blessed with massive sporting talent and natural resources which can generate financial support.

In the run up for the Elections, it was Richard Akpokavie former president of Ghana Hockey and former Secretary General of the GOC who indicated his ambition to become the president to avenge his defeat to incumbent Ben Nunoo Mensah, aka HRH Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira 1, but the latter shocked everyone when he announced that he is not going for the third term, and wish others take up the mantle to lead Ghana sports as he has been called up for higher service in global sports and traditional roles.

So the other executive board positions were targeted by some Federation heads. with the Treasurer position to be hotly contested between Isaac Aboagye Duah of Ghana Tennis and Evans Yeboah of Ghana Badminton.

The first vice president position have been not yet seen anyone challenging Mawuko Afadzinu. president of Ghana Table Tennis, but Secretary General Shanoon Mohammed who is president of Ghana Cycling will face Kassim Mohammed Muniru of the Ghana Swimming while the second vice president is having Frederick Otu Lartey of Gna Taekwodo currently standing alone and the third vice president is between Mohammed Mahadi of Ghana Fencing and Ernest Danso of Ghana Baseball and Chef du mission for Team Ghana at the 2023 African Games.

Bawa Fuseini of Ghana Athletics is interested in the assistant secretary general position which is currently held by Jerry Ahmed Shaib of Ghana Weightlifting.

Michael Aggrey, former President of the Ghana Golf Association emerged with a surprise to declare his readiness for the presidency and his announcement shook the grounds.

Others interested in serving on the board to represent Olympic and non Olympic sports like Albert K. Frimpong of African Baseball. George Lamptey of Ghana Boxing. Michael Ntow Ayerh of the Ghana Education Service. Alhaji Hayye Yartey of Ghana Bodybuilding, Mrs Delpina Quaye of Ghana Swimming and George Tettey of Ghana Volleyball Federation have surfaced with attractive campaign posters on social media and some traditional media.

Yours Truly has heard many people want to contest, but they are watching if the grounds are fertile or rough before filing at the last minute.

In the last Elections in 2021 there was the Green Team who swept all the positions against the Yellow team who are returning to revenge.

The Green team have revamped and made some tactical changes to scare the Yellow team.

At the time of writing this piece it is 15 days to go. I am very sure others will come out to contest and it is certainly going to be exciting, with shocks and surprises again.

We must expect to hear names sports politician like Charles Osei Asibey, Reverend Quarcoo, Chris Essilfie. Farida Iddris Joyce Mahama and Rafatu Inusa in the race. They cannot be left out after their vibrant debates at previous GOC congresses.

With a fortnight to go, let us expect to see other candidates coming up or whether some will pull out to support others.

However, all of them should know that it is service to Ghana First, how to build upon the existing positive legacies, especially sports infrastructure and motivate athletes to excel at the international platform.

We wish the delegates all the best and pray that they vote wisely. Good Luck and congratulations to all who have decided to serve Ghana Sports.
