The Northern Region will be fully represented at the upcoming 2026 National Individual Amateur Boxing Championship slated for January 29 to February 1 at the Accra Sports Stadium and Bukom Boxing Arena.
According to coach Waliwu Alhassan, he has prepared some boxers from Tamale who will be coming to Accra to justify themselves for selection into the national boxing team, the Black Bombers.
Coach Alhassan who was in Accra for the Boxing Ghana Awards where he was honoured for his dedicated service said his boxers are very eager to make a statement and they are going to express themselves in the ring with good boxing.
He said they are not afraid of the Accra boxers, but coming with vigour, hard work and discipline.
Meanwhile gyms in Accra have also intensified their training regimes and everyone is serious.
During the week the hardworking Omashi Media Sports crew have visited the gyms and it has been exciting and interesting seeing how boxers are training with power and passion.
The Ghana Boxing Federation President, Alhaji Dauda Fuseni told Yours Truly they are rebranding the sport and want to give opportunity to boxers and coaches.
He noted that the Individual Championship would be held twice in a year to keep amateur boxers busy and ready for international competitions.
Dauda who is the new President of Africa Zone 2 which comprises the West African region revealed they are planning an international boxing league and hoped it would be successful.
He said it is time Ghana grab more gold medals at international competitions like the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, hence they are taking their plans to higher levels to attract corporate sponsorship.
"Boxing is the sport or discipline that has given Ghana true world champions and we have to guard the sport and invest more" he expressed.
