Hard punching and stylish Desmond Pappoe, a member of the Black Rockets who won gold at the African Youth Boxing Championship in Guinea has been honoured as the Best Amateur Boxer of the year, 2025, following a massive vote to determine the winner.

He beat top favourite Mathias Ashitey who got the nod for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Award.

According to Pappoe who trains at the Jamestown boxing gym, he was not surprised to win but could not make it to the event.

He thanked all those who voted for him.

His gym, Jamestown Boxing Club also won the 2025 Best Boxing Gym Award to prove a point.

Assistant coach of the club, Nuhu said they are doing something right and that is the reason they got the votes.

He urged all boxers in the gym to remain disciplined and loyal aside training very hard.

Africanus Neequaye who won the national super lightweight title is a product of Jamestown Club.
