Ayitey Powers Cries For Justice And Compensation

Michael Nii Ayitey Okine aka Ayitey Powers, a retired popular boxer who is now a promoter is calling on the leadership of government to help him get justice and compensation for the amount of money used to promote a bout which was cancelled by the National Sports Authority (NSA) following the death of Ernest Akushey aka Bahubali and a promise to ensure that all boxers go through appropriate medical screening and other safety  protocols before bouts are sanctioned.

According to Powers he had hint of the cancellation and when he contacted the Minister of Sports and Recreation as well as the Director General of the National Sports Authority. they assured him nothing of that sort is coming on.

A day to his promotion during the weigh in he got a letter that all boxing activities had been put on hold.

Since then he had tried several times to meet the Director General and new administration of Ghana Boxing but all efforts have failed.

He had been to the Jubilee House on several occasions but was not given the opportunity to have audience with the Chief of Staff.

The popular NDC activist who is based in the  Ablekuma South Constituency said he is very surprised that his own government which he campaigned for is in power yet he is facing difficulties.

He said the promotion which should have come on September 27 dubbed 'Judgement Day' was cancelled for no reason, and after the suspension was lifted other promotions have been sanctioned by the Interim Management Committee (IMC) constituted by the Minister of Sports and Recreation and the National Sports Authority (NSA).

According to Powers who is President of the Voice of Boxers, the leadership of the IMC should have stood for him as a boxer doing promotion, but they have shun him and supported others like Dzata Promotions in Tarkwa, Legacy Rise Sports Promotions at Legon and Bishop Promotions at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

"The NSA boss. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah promised me that my programme would be the first when the ban is lifted but the story turned out to be different, seems they don't respect me" he said

He went on to accuse Bishop of using boxers he had earlier engaged.

"In fact I feel sad for Ghana Boxing.  If this is the way we are going then the future is not bright because there are big promotions and some ones.  We have promoters that target many fans and others doing for a smaller groups" he said.

He blamed Samir Captan former President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Professor Azumah Nelson and Coach Ofori Asare all members of the IMC as not having Ghana Boxing at heart and not helping him to get back his money.

"I think the IMC don't have any plans or ideas. so it would be better if they hand over to an elected body for the professional boxing fraternity to have peace" he expressed.

"Currently some boxers have challenged themselves and if I had the money I will put them on the stage but I am broke, very broke because I used money to promote my last fight and it was cancelled with only a day to go, in fact it's very sad and unfortunate. something must be done. as time also flies" he said.
