Former amateur boxer, Mohammed Abdullai has advised boxers to be disciplined and not get involved in activities that can land them in jail.

Sharing his experiences on ‘The Big Fight Night’ on Omashi TV last Friday night, he revealed that after he had been invited to the national team who were preparing for an international competition with the Black Bombers, he was arrested by Police during an operation at Katamanto Market where he went to buy socks, and ended at the Nsawam Prison to served for two and half years, after he was given five years.

According to Abdullai aka ‘Cobra’, he was one of the best boxers during his time as he went to the finals with Charles Adamu ‘The Crusader’.

Abdullai Mohammed said boxers are special breed of people because their work is hard and they entertain people.

He expressed that boxers should be taken good care of and be protected by their managers, coaches and fans.

He was sad on the death of Ernest Akushey aka Bahubali who lost his life recently, eleven days after a a fight.

Abdullai Mohammed who had the opportunity to travel to Saudi Arabia after his jail term said God is wonderful and can do things that man can never think of.

“I have learnt my lessons, and I am very humble, I do not like trouble and do not go to places where I can attract trouble that is why I am advising the boxers. I want to caution boxers against juju and other spiritual things for success, the best juju is training, you have to train hard by going to the beach and run for hours to beef up your stamina and strength to become a champion boxer” he expressed.

The 56 year old said he had wanted to train other boxers to become champions but it is not easy to build a boxing gym.

“I know Ghana is a boxing nation and we have very good boxers, Azumah Nelson is senior but I love to watch Ike Quartey because of his effective jabs” he stressed when asked about his best boxer.

On the normalization of Ghana Boxing, he noted that the big men knows what is best for Ghana because they are the experts, and called for support to put Ghana Boxing on a better platform to find the winning ways to grab more world titles.

He was accompanied to the show by Ismaila Mills, a footballer who loves boxing.

Ismaila said the demise of Bahubali is a big blow to the youth in Ablekuma South and wondered why as a star who pulled crowds, he was not managed or protected well.
