In February 2014, a group of women who have interest in sports decided to organise, appreciate and honour their fellow women who are contributing positively to the development and promotion of sports in Ghana, be it athletes, administrators and journalists among others.
Along the line, the responsibility fell on Madam Gloria Commodore, a passionate person for sports who continued to build the Women In Sports Association (WISA) as an NGO, members were invited and it was duly registered at the Registrar Generals Department in Accra the same year.
It was to celebrate women in all fields of sporting activities annually and to inspire others to give of their best in their chosen sporting careers.
With her hard work and support from the National Sports Authority (NSA), Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), African Sports Media Network, corporate Ghana (sponsors) and her able executives, the annual WISA Awards became a formidable event as many sports women across the length and breadth of the country looked forward to it yearly. So far, a substantial number of sports women have been recognized, empowered and inspired by this initiative to work even harder in their various sporting fields.
Six years later, Madam Gloria Commodore, the affable Executive Director and President of WISA has felt the urge to begin a fundraising project called WISA CHARITIES, to support its members, especially disabled sports women in the country to help them excel in their careers.
“As we launch the initiative today, December 18, 2020, via social media, WISA is calling on the general public, corporate entities, philanthropists and benevolent groups to come on board to donate any amount to make the dream a reality”she announced.
Donations from GH₵10.00 and above can be made into the WISA Mobile Money Account - +233(0)244104599 or +233(0)245017487 and WISA will be most grateful. For donors abroad, contributions from $2, £2 and €2 and above will be welcomed. Certificates of Appreciation will be emailed to all donors!
Kindly follow the launch on Facebook @facebook.com/Women in Sports Association at 12pm today, Friday, 18th December, 2020.

The management of Asante Kotoko have parted ways with head coach Maxwell Konadu with immediate effect.
The club announced the decision on Friday morning.
Asante Kotoko suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat to Accra Great Olympics on Thursday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Supporters of the club called for the sack of Maxwell Konadu following the defeat.
The former Black Stars assistant coach has come under intense pressure following the club's poor start of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Kotoko have won one, losing one and drawing two in four outings.
A club statement reads, "Management of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club wishes to inform the general public that it has decided to part ways with Coach Maxwell Konadu as its Head Coach with immediate effect.
"Coach Johnson Smith has been appointed to lead the team in the interim."
Kotoko will play Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu on Sunday before hosting Al Hilal at the Accra Sports Stadium in their CAF Champions League preliminary round games.

Black Satellites goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad says the team has set its sight on winning the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship to honour President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo.
The Ghana U-20 defeated Niger on penalties to book their place in the finals of the competition.
They next come face to face with Burkina Faso on Saturday with the ultimate trophy at stake.
The Asante Kotoko goalkeeper in an interview revealed the best commemoration of the president’s reelection will be to deliver him the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship trophy.
“Initially the very big task was to secure qualification to Mauritania, and that has been attained,” he told Kumasi based Wontumi TV.
“Now the next step is to fight hard and win the trophy for Ghana and President [H. E.] Nana Addo. We recently had peaceful elections so we believe if we win the trophy and bring it home, it will add to the joy and peace already in the country.
“So the jubilation we had yesterday is now in the past but we have started to engage each other to work hard to bring the trophy to Ghana.
“Ghana is hungry for trophies so we want to deliver this one to Ghanaians,” the young goalkeeper concluded.
By qualifying to the finals of the competition, the Black Satellites headed by Coach Karim Zito have also booked a ticket to the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania.

ANOC sets dates for World Beach Games in 2023

The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) has set dates of September 24 to 30 for the second edition of its World Beach Games in 2023.
A decision was taken by ANOC in May to postpone the event from 2021.
ANOC said its Executive Council had decided not to stage the event as planned next year "to alleviate pressure" on National Olympic Committees (NOCs) amid the coronavirus pandemic.
This would ensure they could focus on preparing their athletes for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, it was stated.
ANOC secretary general Gunilla Lindberg, speaking during the Panam Sports General Assembly, revealed the organisation plans to host the event from September 24 to 30 in 2023.
The dates avoid a clash with the Pan American Games in Santiago, which are due to run from October 20 to November 5.
The ANOC Executive Council had invited NOCs to express an interest in bidding by February this year for either the 2021 or 2023 World Beach Games.
The process was halted due to the pandemic, however.

Lindberg said ANOC now aimed to launch the bid process for the event following the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games next year.
She said this would enable NOCs to focus on their preparations for the Olympic Games, while she expressed hope that potential hosts would be able to have more normal contact with Governments and sponsors at the time.
The inaugural ANOC World Beach Games were held in Doha last year.
San Diego was awarded the 2019 World Beach Games in 2015, but the event had to be relocated after Californian organisers were unable to raise the necessary money to fund it.
Qatar stepped in at late notice and hosted what ANOC officials claim was a successful maiden edition of the multi-sport event.

The Ghana Union of Traders' Association (GUTA) has expressed its displeasure with the transitional arrangement of the Ghana's Universal Pass (UNIPASS) system, which is costing the importer more than before.
The Association therefore wants the government to act quickly to fix the challenges, to bring operations at the port to normalcy with the enhanced efficiency, promised the business community.
A press statement signed by Dr. Joseph Obeng, its President, and copied to the media, he said prior to the introduction of the UNIPASS system, the Association was briefed on the efficiency that the new system would bring to enhance the clearing process at the ports.
"We recognise the fact that it is within the remit of the government to bring any system that will enhance trade facilitation and increase revenue for the state."
The statement said the Association was assured of a smooth transition and that the pilot programmes took place at other places other than the Tema Port and "this is why GUTA was mute and observing the trend of affairs".
It expressed its surprise that the system was full of challenges – causing delays, something that was putting financial strain on the importer, in terms of demurrage and rent charges.
"We want to know, who bears the cost of such charges of demurrage and rent, since the importer, is not the cause of the problems in the implementation of the new system", the statement added.
