Mr. Emmanuel Nii Adjin Olla Williams, President of the Ghana Tug of War Federation and Pillow Fight Championship has called on companies, especially those who deal in sanitary pads to support female students who are engaged in sports.

Speaking to Yours Truly on the difficulties and problems facing female athletes, he identified sanitary pads as one issue that the girls face and expressed that if that problem is addressed many girls will join in sporting activities.

“We have many girls who love and want to do sports, but due to their petty problems, they stay out, but they must be enticed and engaged to participate and perform, because sports is good for everyone including girls.

Mr. Williams who is the founder and CEO of the One-On-One Foundation which has organized many programmes and events including the Schools Sanitation Train in tertiary and most secondary schools as well as well basic schools said sports is life and sports can create many opportunities for both males and females, but the females must be considered and encouraged because of their menstruation circle and financial situations.

He commended companies and individuals who have over the years supported his programmes.

Mr. Olla Williams who is the Youth Coordinator of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has been penciled down as one of the awardees at this year’s 2023 Women In Sports Association (WISA) Awards scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium in September.

Meanwhile, he has sent goodwill and good luck messages to the Black Princesses who are taking part in the WAFU competition and the Black Queens who will be going for the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers.

King of the Ring 3 - Super-Packed International Boxing Event Set On June 16

Monarch Events and Promotions is about to illuminate the shores of Ghana, to be precise, the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra with a Super power-packed boxing event dubbed “King of the Ring 3” on the 16th of June, 2023.

The event is set to feature eleven bouts consisting of boxers from seven (7) countries, excluding Ghana.

At stake is the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Super Flyweight strap (vacant) and the African Boxing Union (ABU) African Super Bantamweight belts.

The participating countries includes UK, Venezuela, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Benin, Ivory Coast, and Kazakhstan.

The main event which is set to begin at 3pm will be between Tasif Khan (16-1-2, 8 KOs) from UK and David Barreto (17-2, 16 KOs) from Venezuela, at stake will be the vacant WBC Silver Super Flyweight title, which was previously held by current IBF world champion Fernando Daniel Martinez.

The co-main event will be a womens’ affair where undefeated Nigerian Adijat Gbadamosi will face Patience Mastara of Zimbabwe for the vacant ABU African Super Bantamweight title.

The following are the remaining nine bouts set to be on the cards at the Bukom Boxing Arena on June 16;

Ghana’s Felix Ajom will square off with his countryman Emmanuel Quartey in an 8 rounds super feather contest.

Eworitse Ezra Arenyeka alias “The Nigerian King” will face Philibert Sodjinou of Benin in an 8 rounds super middle contest.

Nigeria’s Victor Beneth will clash with his Zimbabwean counterpart Anele Bafana in an 8 rounds light heavy contest.

Ghana’s Prince Oko Nartey will face Ivorian Adama Kone in an 8 rounds super middle contest.

Henry Malm will clash with Collinson Korley in an all Ghana affair over an 8 rounds super welter contest.

Temirzhan Baimolda of Kazakhstan will meet Issa Aliyah Phiri of Zimbabwe in an 8 rounds super light contest.

Fosu Timothy of Ghana will face Sule Keke from Benin in a 6 rounds welterweight contest.

The final two bouts will feature Ghana’s undefeated super lightweight prospect Faisal Abubakari aka “Poncho Power” in a 6 rounds super lightweight contest against a yet to be announced (TBA) opponent and UK’s Ede Omoregie against a yet to be announced opponent in a 4 rounds heavyweight contest.

The road to the Women's Olympics Football Tournament in Paris 2024 will kick off with some of the exciting clashes in the African Qualifiers.

Among the highly anticipated matches in the first round is a West African derby featuring Guinea and Ghana, promising a thrilling display of skill and passion.

Another intriguing encounter awaits as Uganda and Rwanda, two East African powerhouses, face off in an epic duel.

Not to be overlooked, Burkina Faso and Mali are set to ignite the pitch in what promises to be an enthralling fixture, adding to the intensity of the qualifiers.

With a total of 25 teams vying for a spot in the tournament, 18 will be engaged in the first round.

The remaining seven, including reigning champions South Africa, will enter the competition in the second round as the highest-ranked teams from the previous TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The tournament format will see the nine winners from the first round join the seven highest-ranked teams in a captivating second-round clash involving 16 teams.

From there, the journey continues as the eight victors progress to the third round, followed by the fourth round where only four teams will remain.

The ultimate prize awaits the winners of the fourth round, who will secure their qualification for the final tournament in Paris.

The dates for the rounds have been confirmed with the first round matches scheduled for 10-18 July 2023.

The second round will take place between 23-31 October 2023, followed by the third round from 19-28 February 2024.

The final round will be between 1 and 9 April 2024.

Coach Carl Lokko, director / head trainer of the Bronx Boxing Gym at James Town has revealed that there are great and enticing plans for all his boxers, and they are just praying for the right times to explode.

Speaking to Yours Truly in an exclusive chat he said boxing of Bronx Boxing Gym are not push overs and no opponent can dictate to them, because they are champions in their own rights.

According to Coach Lokko, one of the best boxing trainers Ghana has seen, he heard of rumours about one of his boxers, Jacob Tetteh Laryea (9-0, 8 Kos) who holds the West African Super Welterweight Title pitched against one Musah Lawson, the National Super Welterweight Champion, but laughed it off, because they have their plans and moving on to become world rated and world champions.

“We are not idle, or just waiting for someone to tell us what to do. We have our plans and projections. We are aiming very high to reach the top at the appropriate time. My boxer, Jacob Laryea is the West African Champion and we want him to become African and Commonwealth Champion, and then move to the world ranks. We are not in any rush. The Chorkor Fire is really on fire but we are thinking about better deals and big opportunities. Not only for him but all the boxers” he expressed.

According to Coach Carl Lokko, Laryea just won the West African Title Belt after beating power puncher, Emmanuel Quaye and he needs to enjoy the victory as well as wait for a mandatory defence, not just rushing to fight anyone by heart.

He said all the boxers at Bronx Gym have managers who know much about the game and business of boxing and are not in a rush.

He noted that at the right time, they will defend their titles and at the right time they will go for bigger bouts.

Coach Lokko is remembered for leading Richard Commey to fight for his first world title and he learnt a lot lessons in the United States, before he had campaigned in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, he has sent warm greetings to all the managers who handle his boxers.

Alexander Ababio, the Chief Executive Officer of Bofoakwa Tano, has discussed the club's successful promotion to Ghana's top-flight league after 16 years.

He revealed plans to strengthen the squad for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

The Sunyani-based side secured their place in the premier league by prevailing 7-6 on penalties against Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Bofoakwa Tano's qualification marks a significant milestone for the club, which experienced relegation during the 2006/2007 campaign.

The CEO expressed his delight at the achievement and shared the team's objectives for the upcoming season in an interview with Citi Sports.

“Now, we have to get some recruitment done for the new season, we have to get about five or six players.

“We have to also beef the technical team up, we have to get a new coach, because the current coach is a license B holder, who cannot coach in the premier league.

“With all these shake-ups, I think we can survive in the Ghana Premier League.”

Alexander Ababio, the Chief Executive Officer of Bofoakwa Tano, has expressed his thoughts on the recently concluded season, which proved to be challenging yet ultimately rewarding as the club secured promotion to Ghana's top-flight league for the first time in 16 years.

Bofoakwa Tano's qualification marks a significant milestone for the club, which endured relegation during the 2006/2007 campaign.

The Sunyani-based team sealed their promotion by prevailing 7-6 on penalties against Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium, earning the final ticket to the top flight for the upcoming season.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Alexander Ababio expressed his excitement and satisfaction at guiding the team back to the prestigious top division of Ghanaian football.

"It was an exciting day for us after securing qualification to Ghana's top-flight league," Ababio remarked, visibly pleased with the achievement.

"We have experienced the pain of relegation for the past 16 years, and it has not been an easy feeling. It was a very difficult journey, particularly with the division of the zones into Zone One A and Zone One B."

Ababio acknowledged the unique challenges faced by the team due to the revised zonal structure.

"Playing against the same team four times in the zone was not economically attractive," he explained. "Additionally, Zone B consisted of several teams with prior Premier League experience, making it an even more arduous task. However, we managed to navigate our way through."

Ace Power Boxing Promotions has proven over the years that they can stage big fights and their records show.

Chief Executive Officer of the enterprising Ace Power Promotions, Mr. Isaac Amankwah says they want to partner or collaborate with some of the top ranked promotional outfits in the United States of America or United Kingdom and Australia to manage and promote some boxers.

He noted that Ghana has talent as boxers can be found in every part of the nation, but talent needs to be groomed and polished with technical, financial and moral support to excel.

Mr. Amankwah who is currently in the US attending the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Convention in Chicago is optimistic of landing at partnership or support with advanced people and entities.

He named some of Ace Power Boxing featured boxers as Holy Dorgbetor, Samuel Martey, Robert Quaye and others who are yet to be known publicly.

He thanked his Founder and Chairman of Ace Power Boxing Promotions for his contributions to Ghana Boxing and Sports Media.

Ghana's top Para Athlete, Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe registered another victory and a gold medal in another wheelchair race in the USA.

He picked the prestigious gold medal for Ghana in the 10km Road Race in New Jersey on Monday morning.

It was the senior men open masters division, and he clocked a time of 25.36seconds.

He was so happy with his performance and believes he can display better at other championships.

The multi talented international star said he is self motivated, however the government and people of Ghana need to appreciate and love what he is doing so that he can perform better and encourage others to join in the sports space.

He thinks there are more disabled people who should be inspired to come out and show their talent, strength and skills.

The former Sports Writers Association of Ghana SWAG Award Winner is hopeful to win the cherried award again, and knows that the African Para Games in September would be a platform for many Ghanaians to see him live.

He expressed gratitude to all those who are supporting him and prayed that Ghana Sports attains what it deserves.

Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele made a special appearance at Selhurst Park on Sunday to witness a unique family encounter between his sons, Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew, as they played against each other on the final day of the Premier League season.

The former captain of the Ghana national team watched with keen interest as Jordan Ayew featured for the entire 90 minutes for Crystal Palace, while Andre Ayew made a late substitute appearance in the 1-1 draw.

The Ayew brothers' clash on the field provided a touching moment for the family and showcased their talent and dedication to the game.

As the season came to a close, it was an opportunity for players to share their success with their loved ones, and Crystal Palace took to Instagram to celebrate these connections.

The club shared pictures of their players and their families, including a heartwarming snapshot of Jordan Ayew alongside his father, Abedi Pele.

Jordan has been a standout performer for Crystal Palace, particularly since the international break in March when Roy Hodgson took over as manager from Patrick Vieira. During this period, he has scored three goals and provided three assists in 38 league games, contributing significantly to the Eagles' success.

Meanwhile, Ayew joined Nottingham Forest in January and has made 13 appearances for the club, with 12 of them coming off the bench. Although he hasn't found the back of the net yet, his presence and experience undoubtedly made an impact on the team.

According to the Ace media practitioner with a lot of media and travel experience, Seth Gyimah has taken his best and wise decision which should be respected.

He noted that he would be like Anthony Joshua, one of his idols who is promoting his country, Nigeria.

Freezy Macbones began his amature boxing career in UK with no any income job but was later advised to channel his effort in a job that may offer him reliable income.

Seth Gyimah pursued his passion and made way to the professional ranks in 2021 with Ghana Boxing Authority(GBA) licence to authenticate his career status.

The 33 year old light heavyweight boxer whose target is to become a world champion became popular in Ghana, United Kingdom and across the world after a viral video he knocked out Darryl Sharp at the Copper Box Arena in London.

The GBA President, Abraham Kotei Neequaye was recently reported speaking about his nationality switch, but Seth Gyimah was not enthused about it and preferred to carry on with his business.

Seth Gyimah who got his GBA professional boxing license in 2021 has upgraded and now campaigning in British rings.

He now has a fan base in the United Kingdom with more people itching to see him in action.

He has also attracted Ghanaian supporters who are wishing him success to beat the best in the world.
