The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) is delighted to welcome Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams as the first minister for the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
This appointment, subsequent approval by Ghana’s Parliament and the swearing into office by H. E John Mahama, is a testament to Hon. Adams’s experience in governance and managerial roles.
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Hon. Adams assured the committee of his determination to develop sports holistically, prioritizing not just football but also other sporting disciplines. This is a welcome promise, and SWAG is eager to see him deliver on this commitment.
As Minister, Hon. Adams will face many challenges, including the need to improve sports infrastructure, enhance athlete welfare, and promote transparency and accountability in sports governance.
However, with his experience and passion for sports, there's no doubt he'll rise to the challenge and make a positive impact on Ghanaian sports.
SWAG is particularly excited about Hon. Adams' commitment to promoting other sporting disciplines beyond football. This is a critical area that requires attention, as Ghana has a wealth of talented athletes across various sports.
However, we also call on him to pay attention to school sports, revive Inter-Schools competitions, and the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA Games). By prioritizing the development of these sports, Hon. Adams can help create a more diverse and vibrant sports ecosystem in Ghana.
Furthermore, Hon. Adams' appointment presents an opportunity for SWAG to strengthen its collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. As the umbrella body for sports journalists in Ghana, SWAG is committed to promoting the development of sports in the country. We look forward to working closely with Hon. Adams and his team to achieve this goal.
In conclusion, SWAG once again congratulates Hon. Kofi Adams on his appointment as Minister for Sports and Recreation.
We are confident that he will bring his wealth of experience and expertise to bear on the development of sports in Ghana. We wish him all the best in his new role and look forward to working with him to promote the growth and development of Ghanaian sports.

Claressa Shields is an American professional boxer, and the first boxer, male or female, to win undisputed world championships in three different weight classes. Over the weekend, Shields defeated Danielle Perkins to claim the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles, solidifying her status as a boxing legend.
Shields won gold medals in the women's middleweight division at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, making her the first American boxer to win consecutive Olympic medals
Claressa Shields solidified her place in boxing history as a three-division champion and the first-ever undisputed women’s heavyweight champion. With an unblemished record of 16-0, Shields is the only boxer, male or female, to claim undisputed champion status across three different weight divisions in the four-belt era—junior middleweight, middleweight, and now heavyweight.
She defeated the previously undefeated Danielle Perkins in a powerful fight. With just seconds left in the 10th and final round, Shields landed a decisive right hook that floored Perkins. The judges scored the fight 97-92, 99-90, and 100-89, all in Shields’ favour, securing her the win and the undisputed women’s heavyweight title.
Shields is now the undisputed champion of the heavyweight division, but it also cemented her place as the first boxer in the four-belt era—regardless of gender—to become the undisputed champion in three different weight classes. Shields currently hold the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles, with the heavyweight division for women considered to start at 175 pounds.
Her latest victory also ended Perkins’ undefeated record, which now stands at 5-1 with two knockouts. Meanwhile, Shields remains undefeated, with her professional record now standing at 16-0, including three knockouts.
She is an inspiration to many boxers in Ghana, especially Yarkor Chavez Annan who is the first pro female boxer from Ghana and current WIBF Champion, Abigail Quartey.
Many people love boxing in Ghana and Claressa Maria Shields is so much loved in Accra
