A new documentary titled Roots of the Culture is set to premiere on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Nima Maamobi Community Learning Centre in Accra. The documentary film follows Bboy Lyricx, a Ghanaian dancer,cultural innovator and entrepreneur as he traces the African roots of hiphop and introduces the world to his Afrobreak concepts, a dance philosophy that fuses traditional African movement with the energy of breakin’ and elements of Hiphop.
More than just a style, Afrobreak is a cultural reclamation - a return to the ancestral rhythms that shaped hiphop long before it took root in the Bronx. Through personal stories of other African Hiphop practitioners , dance footage, and community voices, the documentary highlights how movement can be a tool for identity, resistance, and empowerment.
The premiere event will also feature a street art photo exhibition, Afrobreak music album listening, and a live drum & dance showcase — celebrating the deep connection between African traditions and global street culture.
Roots of the Culture is produced by Africa Breaking Academy and calls on the world to recognize Africa not only as the origin of rhythm, but as a creative force shaping the future of hip-hop.

Nii Gonti Adjor 1 aka Nii Adama Addy has been co-opted onto the reconstituted board of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). He is owner of The Gym and former trainer / manager of Joseph Agbeko.

Dr. Eric Tetteh and Lawyer Sam Laryea have also been named onto the board following the withdrawal of John Marfo.

Meanwhile Andy Nortey Sports Editor at Ghanaian Times, Sammy Heywood Okine aka General One and Prince Dornu Leiku of Graphic Sports and Dornu’s Corner fame have been named to the Communications Desk.

Ag President Roger Barnor hinted that plans are in the pipeline to hold the Extra Ordinary Congress on july 19 which the National Sports Authority (NSA) has not barred from taking place.

After consultations with stakeholders, the boxing fraternity has come to a conclusion that they can manage their affairs and they do not need an interim committee to steer affairs.

"We are very capable, we call for reconciliation, peace and unity" said Roger Barnor.

The board is now made of Roger Barnor, Lord Acquaye. Shadrack Acquaye (Technical Director). Carl Lokko, Alhaji Murtala Tofiki, Micheal Neequaye, Nii Gonti, Micheal Tetteh, Dr. Eric Tetteh, Lawyer Sam Laryea and Andrews Nortey (PRO).

Abu Kamoko aka ‘Ambitious Bukom Tilapia’ has challenged Jonathan Mbanugu for a fight to determine who is who. According to Tilapia who is the first son of the popular former boxer Bukom Banku, there have been calls by the boxing public for Ghanaian boxers to fight each other and put an end to fixed or arranged fights.

“I want to fight and beat Jon Power, if he killed a Nigerian boxer, late Gabriel Olusewagun Olanrewaju in the ring and everyone is afraid of him, I am ready to face and beat him squarely, I am not afraid of him” he said on his social media platform.

Meanwhile, the manager of Jonathan Mbanugu, Mr. Gordon Frimpong aka Osibor has accepted the challenge and appealed to Legacy Rise Sports to put the bout on.

“We are also more than ready to fight Kamoko” he expressed.

For their records, Mbanugu has 15 wins, one loss and one draw, while Kamoko has won all his four professional bouts.

Bukom boxing fans are also happy to hear and cannot wait to watch and cheer their idols.

After the much talked about ‘Battle of the Beasts’ on Friday June 13th, Legacy Rise have promised to return in December and Kamoko who was the star that many people did not watch fight due a poor show by Jacob Dickson against Andrew Tabiti which forced many fans to leave the arena before his bout with Stephen Ackon says he will give the best of himself.

Ghana top seed in Table Tennis, Derek Abrefa is making great waves in the United Kingdom as he represented Central London to beat Birmingham in an important tournament played over the weekend.

8 teams played qualifiers in their respects Zones to qualify to the top 8 for the Finals of Finals

According to Abrefa,  it was a big win for Team Central London on Saturday after winning the  Gold at the 2025 Wilmott Cup Finals in Draycott, United Kingdom.

"It was a moment of joy for me as my name would also go into the history books of the English Leagues Cup Competitions, one of the longest existing Table Tennis England Sanctioned League which has existed as far back since 1979" he expressed.

"I encountered a very stiff challenge after my bat was disqualified. I overstretched my rubber during glueing and forgot to recheck as I thought it would take weeks for rubbers to shrinkle on the blade. I think I overstretched it. The umpire alerted the referee, and after a cross examination, I had to change my racket because the League goes strictly by the international rules. Forgetting to go with my spare bat, i had to play the tournament with any available bat of my colleagues who weren't on the court playing" he explained.

"As some players would lose hope in situations like this, I was rather motivated to fight on. In the battlefield, it's not the sword that brings victory to the warrior but rather the man behind the sword that determines the outcome of a war" he said.

According to the ‘Grandmaster’, as he is also called, his teammates thought it was all over for them until they saw him pushing his way through with their bats (racket), progressing the team to the finals where he had to play the decider match of the day. Point by point, rally against rally, he gradually sealed it. winning 11-9 in the fifth to secure the ultimate position with his team.

"Yes, we won the Gold, my utmost thanks goes to God Almighty for bringing me this far. I also thank Central London, SKT Club, and ebaTT Club for inspiring me to this level. Special thanks to my teammate Oleg Biletskyi, whom together we fought to attain the top spot. And to you all out there who made this possible with your prayers and motivation, God richly bless you all" he added.

Adisadel Old Boys, (Santaclausians), featuring a strong team of active golf players performed marvelously with some of exciting strokes to beat Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) by a difference of three points to retain the Jonah Cup making their fifth victory at the Achimota Golf Club on Friday July 4, 2025.

MOBA Golf (spotting their best red and black) who won the first two tournaments had planned to tie with their opponents to make it four all, but could not match the strong presentation of the team in white and black.

Joe Tieku; Mike Aggrey, Martin Osei, President Eddie Nustugah, Benjy Cudjoe, Smyly Bannerman with Captain Dr. Asimenu did well but the Santaclusians were better on the day.

This year which is the eighth edition of the competition was played in an exhilarating atmosphere at the Achimota Club where the players had much fan after the game.

The SANTA Team comprised President David Atuwo, Capt (rtd) Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Okoe Allotey, the Abrokwah brothers, ace leftie Dr. Alifu and Captain Dr. Kweku Appeatu Ankrah.

Dr. Sir Sam Jonah in whose honour the tournament was played shared some jokes before presenting the giant trophy to Captain of the SANTA Golf  team, amidst excessive funfair as they sang cheerfully and took memorable pictures.

He announced that the next tournament will be held in Kumasi, the Garden City.

Dr. Ernest Asimenu, Captain of MOBA MOBA Golf promised that they well go back to the drawing board and train harder to win the Kumasi edition. He congratulated the winners for their victory.

Dr. Appietu-Ankrah, Captain of SANTA Golf noted that they will keep on winning because they are always the best.

“Our opponent should forget Kumasi, because we are winning everywhere” he expressed.

Former President of the Ghana Golf Association, Mr. Michael Aggrey told Your Truly “The purpose of this event is to create friendship and rapport, so I think the objective was achieved” he said.

Samuel Martei Laryea, the former UBO Africa Super Bantamweight Champion says he has passed the local level as he does not see any boxer or opponent who can fight him.

"Right now, I am in a different class and stronger  so I want to challenge ranked boxers on the African continent and the world,  I think there is no one who can stand in front of me on the local scene " he said on The Big Fight Night' show on Omashi TV last Friday evening.

After nine bouts with seven wins, one lose and one draw, he believes the time is ripe to take bigger international offers.

He expressed that age is a factor in boxers' lives as they can not box at some age, so they have to use their time very well. He name Lukman Akinolugbede from Nigeria as his best opponent.

He thanked his coach George Smart Abbey of Accra Boxing Gym for his technical support as well as Ace Power Promotions and Management who are his managers.

According to Laryea, a proud son of Shiabu, near Chorkor disclosed that due to inactivity his title was stripped from him, but he is not bothered because the future is bright and he is looking forward for bigger opportunities

He announced that on 29 August he would be climbing the ring in Kumasi and promised to put up another wonderful show.

Also known as the 'Eagle Eye', he urged all his fans and supporters to watch out for greater things to come up very soon.

Laryea who loves Dance Hall music named Shatta Wale and Vice Cartel as his favourite artistes and the meal he enjoys most is wheat.

He pleaded with the leadership of Ghana Boxing to always consider the boxers and coaches who make the game sweet and stop doing things that would tarnish their image.

Martei Laryea has faith that Ghana can get another world champion if they are exposed in international competitions.

Chełmianka Chełm, in the III liga of the Polish football league system, have added a new attacking option to their squad with the signing of Ishmael Baidoo. The 26-year-old Ghanaian winger has agreed to a one-year contract, which includes an option to extend for an additional season to mark a new chapter in his career.

Baidoo spent the previous campaign with KTS Weszło Warszawa in Poland, where he had an impressive run, netting 20 goals, 7 assists and earning 4 MVP awards. Over the course of his career, he has played for several clubs across Europe, including Septemvri Sofia in Bulgaria, Górnik Zabrze, and Pogoń Siedlce in Poland, FK Železiarne Podbrezová in Slovakia, and AS Véria in Greece. During his time in Greece, he faced the setback of injury a challenging moment in any athlete's career. However, with determination and resilience, he made a strong comeback to the pitch, reigniting his passion for the game and proving his unwavering commitment to football.

In the past two seasons (2023/2024 and 2024/2025), Baidoo was a key figure at KTS Weszło Warszawa. His professional experience includes 14 appearances in Poland's top division, the Ekstraklasa, and 34 matches in the second tier, where he scored 8 goals, 7 assists.

The player made an appearance for Ghana’s U17 national team during the 2015 WAFU tournament held in Burkina Faso.

Known for his technical skills and ability in one-on-one situations, Baidoo is a versatile attacker capable of playing on both wings. He has also featured as an attacking midfielder as a “number ten" and forward.

President of the Ghana Boxing Promoters Association, Mr. Alex Ntiamoa- Boakye has called for calmness, tranquility and unity among the Ghana professional boxing fraternity to ensure a smooth transition in the leadership.

Speaking on Omashi TV's popular boxing programme. 'The Big Fight Night' he expressed that the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has a constitution which should guide on how to manage issues.

He said there are procedures in their constitution,  however amendments can be made at Congress.

"As a body we work by rules and regulations and that should guide everyone" he stressed.

He noted that since the former President Abraham Neequaye has resigned and handed over the Second Vice President Referee Roger Barnor, it is in the good direction and all board members and stakeholders must support him to see to the progress of the Authority.

He said Roger Barnor has the experience, knowledge and capacity to steer affairs till a new substantive President is elected.

According to the ace promoter, the National Sports Authority and Ministry of Sports and Recreation do not have the right to interfere in their Elections since they know what to do to bring sanity to the administration of the sport.

According to him, he is not interested in contesting for any position, but would rather support the new incoming President and continue to organise attractive bouts and rise boxers as a promoter..

He hinted that the next promotion will be in September featuring boxers like National Super Middleweight Championship Jonathan Tetteh versus Obodai Sai and other exciting fighters like UK based Freezy Macbones.

Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye wished former President of the GBA,  Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye success at his new appointment and prayed that the problems and challenges at the boxing office would inspire him to perform well, since handling boxers and boxing fans is not an easy  job.

"We are friends and brothers working together in the boxing industry and misunderstandings should not let us litigate and lead us into separation, we are a family" he said.

 As the highly anticipated President’s Cup match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko approaches, Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, extends his best wishes to both teams.

In a heartfelt message, Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Adams urged both teams to showcase their skills, dedication, and passion for the beautiful game while maintaining a spirit of fair play and respect for one another.

"May this match be a celebration of Ghana's rich football heritage and sportsmanship," Minister Adams said. "Let's avoid any acts of hooliganism and instead focus on cheering our teams on with enthusiasm and sportsmanship."

Acknowledging the intense rivalry between the two clubs, Minister Adams emphasized the need for fans to refrain from actions that could lead to violence. "We all know the history between these two clubs, but I urge the fans to stay away from any acts of hooliganism," he emphasized.

The Minister also urged match officials to uphold professionalism during the game, ensuring a fair and disciplined approach. "Let's all go and watch the game," he said. "I also urge the referee to be professional on the day, and I hope we will witness a good game."

Scheduled for July 6, 2025, the President’s Cup match promises to be an electrifying encounter, with the winner being crowned champion in the presence of President John Dramani Mahama. If the game ends in a draw, a penalty shootout will determine the winner. Both teams will receive cash prizes, medals, and a trophy for the winner.

Minister Adams' wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable game serve as a reminder of the power of sports to unite Ghanaians. Roger Barnor And Ghana Boxing Authority Board Holds First Meeting With Stakeholders

Acting President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Roger Barnor has held his first meeting with board members and stakeholders on Thursday July 2, 2025.

The meeting was to solicit the views of members regarding the steps to take to thrash out issues with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and, by extension, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

It is the belief of the board that in progressing with the GBA agenda, it was important to gain clearance from the NSA and assure it of our ability to deal with the issues at stake.

Gladly, the majority of board members were in attendance as well as members across the various groupings in the GBA.

Mr. Andy Nortey of the Ghanaian Times who is the board's choice to replace former PRO Hon. Amin Lamptey was in attendance.

According to Mr. Barnor a meeting with the National Sports Authority (NSA) has been scheduled to draw a road map to their Congress and Elections.

Meanwhile, the meeting considered July 19 as date for an Extraordinary Congress to discuss the Elective Congress.

Throughout the session, the phrase 'unity and peace' resonated with all members hoping that peace and tranquility would prevail to execute the plans of the Authority.

“It is our prayer and hope that the breeze of goodwill enjoyed now would spread among the boxing community so that together, the GBA would prosecute its agenda” Roger Barnor expressed.
