The Ghana National Armwrestling Team, the Golden Arms have received a boost ahead of the Africa Armwrestling Championship, slated for Abuja, Nigeria next week as GLICO, NHIA, NPA, GCAA, OmniBSIC and other prominent institutions have heeded to the clarion call by the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, providing various form of support to ensure the team represents at the annual continental championship.
Glico Life Insurance has offered Travel Insurance to the contingent for both the Africa Armwrestling Championship in Abuja, Nigeria and the World Armwrestling Championship in Albena, Bulgaria whilst The Hope Brand (THB) earlier also unveiled beautiful designed kits as the official wear for the Golden Arms, Ghana's national armwrestling team, who are gearing up to make a strong impression at the Africa championship.
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has continued the longstanding relationship with the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, providing support for the Championship and health insurance for the team. The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) also through its corporate social responsibility also has come to the aide of the Golden Arm. The Ghana Civil Aviation (GCAA), focused on using sports to provide a healthy lifestyle for its staff also have partnered to ensure th Golden Arms travel to conquer Africa.
The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), through its support for National Federations has committed to Armwrestling’s participation in the continental championship. The Ministry of Sports & Recreation (MoSR), role in the whole preparation is commendable. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), SIC Insurance Limited, and OmniBSIC have all contributed to the Golden Arms African campaign.
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation is grateful to the various organizations for the support. Also appreciative of the development support extended by the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Prisons Service. Their contribution will go a long way in helping the team prepare for the championship. Though a tough competition awaits us, we're optimistic that with this support, the Golden Arms will be able to overcome any challenges they may face during the competition.
The Africa Armwrestling Championship is a prestigious event that brings together top armwrestlers from across the continent. Ghana has a strong team that is determined to make a mark in the competition having won the 2018 and 2023 editions they are encouraged to take on their opponents and emerge victorious.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially extended the mandate of the Reconstituted Executive Board of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) led by Mr. Roger Barnor, as a move towards resetting and putting the recommendations of the Ministerial Committee in place.
In a letter signed by Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director General of the NSA and copied to the Hon. Minister, MoSR, Chief Director, MoSR and Deputy Director General (Technical), NSA, the Authority acknowledges receipt of a GBA letter dated 10th July, 2025 notifying the Authority of the re-composition of the Executive Board of the GBA.
At the meeting between the Authority and the GBA on 10th July, 2025, it became clear that the mandate of the Executive Board of the GBA comes to an end on Saturday 19th July, 2025.
The Authority is determined to implement the recommendations of the Report of the Ministerial Committee set up to inquire into the death of Nigerian Boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju which occurred on 29th March, 2025.
In light of this and to avoid a vacuum in the administration of the GBA, it has become necessary for the mandate of the Executive Board to be extended for a short period pending the formation of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) to take over the affairs of and implement reforms within the GBA.
In the circumstances, the mandate of the Executive Board of the GBA is hereby extended for a period of 30 days from 19th July 2025 to 19th August, 2025.
The National Sports Authority assured the GBA and the entire boxing fraternity of its readiness to collaborate in the implementation of the recommendations of the said Ministerial Committee to improve and safeguard the sport of boxing in Ghana.

The Ghana Para Athletics Association, in collaboration with the National Paralympic Committee (NPC-Ghana), has successfully kick-started its National Talent Identification Program with a vibrant event at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
This long-awaited initiative aims to scout and develop new athletic talent across the country to feed into Ghana’s para athletics team for upcoming national and international competitions.
The Zone 1 event brought together over 29 persons with impairments or disabilities from Kumasi and nearby towns including Offinso, Konongo, Beposo, Asante Mampong, and KNUST.
Participants, aged between 15 and 43, were introduced to a range of para athletics disciplines including wheelchair racing, 100m and 200m sprints, javelin, shot put, and discus.
The coaching team featured Coach Suleman Aminu, former national athlete Patrick Yaw Obeng, and national athlete and Paralympian Zinabu Issah. By the end of the day, 15 determined and talented athletes had been selected for further training and development.
Beyond talent scouting, the exercise also contributed to building a more accurate national database for para athletics participants.
The Ghana Para Athletics Association extended appreciation to the National Lotteries Authority for their support, and acknowledged contributions from NPC President Samson Deen, Foster Kwarteng, Dr. Isaac Donkor, Dr. Abena Tannor, Ignatius Elletey, Imoro Abdul Basit, and other key stakeholders.
The next event is expected to be organized in the Central Region on Saturday, 19th July 2025 at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has confirmed Ghana’s participation in the maiden African School Games, scheduled to take place in Algeria from July 26 to August 5, 2025.
The prestigious event under the auspices of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) will bring together over 3,000 young athletes from 53 countries across the continent.
The Africa Schools Games, aimed to identify and prepare the next generation of athletes ahead of the African Youth Games and the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games will see Ghana compete in Athletics, 3 x 3 Basketball, Badminton, Beach Volley, Boxing, Cycling, Canoeing, Tennis, Table Tennis, Judo, Swimming and Taekwondo.
The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, to ensure the promotion of sports development and education in Ghana has rigorously selected a team of young budding talents to ensure Ghana’s participation in this prestigious event.
Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee president has said “Africa is preparing to host the Youth Olympics and Olympic Games in the nearest future, and this is the best way to prepare the African team.
“This is a premier platform for identifying and nurturing young talent in African sports. By investing in our young athletes and providing them with opportunities to compete at the highest level, we are building a strong foundation for the future of African sports”
The GOC president commended the collaboration between the Olympic Committee, the Education Ministry, Ministry for Sports and Recreation, the various federations and the coaches preparing the about 40 athletes for the championship.
“Ghana goes into the games in modesty, parading only first and second year senior high school students, but we’re confident to make our country proud” said Mr. Michael Ntow Aryeh, Ghana’s Chef de Mission.
He added that “we believe in the potential of our young athletes, and we are excited to see them showcase their talents on the continental stage”.
The African School Games is a groundbreaking initiative, dedicated exclusively to young African school children.
The event is organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa and the International School Sport Federation (ISF), with support from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The games will feature various sports disciplines, promoting educational and civic values through sport.
Over 50 African nations have confirmed their participation, with 3,018 athletes expected to compete.
Ghana’s participation in the games is seen as an opportunity to showcase its juvenile talent, promote education through sports, and foster youth development.
Team Ghana is set to leave on July 22, 2025, to embark on a journey for glory in Algeria. They are expected to make a strong impression at the games, competing against athletes from across the continent.

The 18 hole Celebrity Golf Club at Sakumono is crying for protection and safety as encroachers have pulled down their wall and invading their course.
The Captain, Mr. Alex Oppong Baffoe and some members of the club spoke to the media after a tour of the course on Wednesday to ascertain what is really happening on the grounds. He expressed that the course is losing its nature as some birds have left and the course suffers watering to be green because the source of water has been taken over by the builders.
"We are law abiding citizens but the law has not been fair to us. We don't want to take the law in our own hands" he said.
He noted that some of their members are leaving to play elsewhere.
The golfers said the way encroachers are approaching is rapid and threatening as they feel unsafe and their security has been exposed.
Some golfers who have been members of the Celebrity Golf Club for over 13 years said it is sad because golf has made some of the youth employed as caddies and even players.
They stressed that at some times the encroachers are supported by some security agencies.
"How can civilised people destroy a golf course when we have only four in Ghana and many in other countries" said one golfer.
The venue has also hosted several events and it is one of the preferred golf destinations in Ghana.
Last week, Celebrity hosted the Female African Regional Tournament, which was a boast for tourism and sports as other nation’s representatives visited Ghana..

The Breaking Federation of Ghana on Tuesday had a meeting with the Director General of the National Sports Authority on the issuance of their working certificate to operate as a sports body which has taken some time.
The President Nana Tufour Okai said they have been operating since 2019 and represented Ghana in many international competitions with the support of the French Embassy in Ghana and JGL.
He hinted that they have taken the sport to other regions like the North, Central, Western and various communities in the Greater Accra Region.
He announced their preparations for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal next year.
Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah assured to support them and urged the Technical Department of the NSA to assist the new federation in getting all their documentations so that they can be admitted into the NSA.
Present was BG Trisy who represented Ghana in Morocco at the African Qualifiers towards the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and some of their executives, Francis Feby, Francis Duah, Maxwell Neur Tetteh and Eric Appa Obiri.
Meanwhile the Afro Break Academy and Breaking Federation will premiere a documentary on Saturday July 19 at the Mamobi Community Library from 2pm. It's all about the genesis of Afro Break in Ghana which has spread to other countries.

The reconstituted Executive Board of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) led by Acting President Roger Barnor and heads of the major stakeholders on Tuesday met the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah at his office at the Accra Sports Stadium.
It was a fruitful discussion on the roadmap to fulfill recommendations of the Ministerial Committee that investigated the death of the Nigerian Boxer and shortcomings of the Ghana Boxing Authority under former President Abraham Neequaye..
The meeting focused on the current state of boxing in Ghana and ways to further enhance support for the sport.
The Acting President Roger Barnor of the GBA presented a pair of gloves to the DG of the NSA signifying trust, respect, love, tranquility, unity among their rank and file as well as readiness to work with the NSA in putting the recommendations and desired structures in place.
The gloves presentation was also a mark of respect and recognition for his efforts in championing sports excellence across various disciplines
The GBA were much concerned about their Extraordinary Congress scheduled for July 19 and the future of Ghana Boxing, especially what happens after the expiration of the current administration on July 22. They were confident of having the capabilities to support the NSA in implementing the recommendations.
Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah assured the boxing fraternity that he will confer and consult with the Minister of Sports and Recreation and write to the GBA very soon on the way forward. He also promised to get copies of the report on the investigations on the death of the Nigerian boxer to the GBA.
Present at the meeting were Lawrence Carl Lokko, Micheal Tetteh aka Golden Mike. Nii Gonti Adjor 1, Mr. Laryea, Alhaji Toffik, Mr. Shadrack Acquaye all Board members, Lord Akwei (Treasurer), Ayitey Powers (Voice of Professional Boxers), Charles Quartey (coaches), Alhaji Zaid (managers) and Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye (promoters), Rasheed Williams aka Believer (matchmakers) representing the various stakeholders respectively as well as, Andrew Nortey (PRO), Solomon Otoo 'Mangola', Dauda Fuseni, Ernest Ofori and Percy Oblitei Commey were all in attendance.
Mr. Gideon Hammond, Deputy Director General and Mr. Charles Amofa, PRO of the NSA also sat in the cool friendly meeting.

16 years old Francis Amoako is the latest to join the SP Sports Management stable. The utility player can maneuver at different positions in defence and midfield, however his favourite positions are right back and center back.
The management of SP Sport Management who support talented young sports people hope to push Francis to a better place in his career so that he can contribute to his country and family.
According to Director of SP Sports, Mr. Samuel Agyei, Francis was specially scouted among many footballers and he passed with his style of performance and discipline.

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) led by Ag President Roger Barnor has recommended E Sports to be played and practiced positively as a tool for social change and development.
He said the world has now gone digital and the GBA is also on the digital platform.
He congratulated the organisers, partners and sponsors of the event held at Atukpai who's Chief Nii Gonti Adjor 1 aka Adama Addy is a member of the reconstituted GBA Board.
According to Mr. Barnor, Atukpai, as a sporting community has played a significant role and been part of Ghana Boxing producing the like of the late Nii Dzanie Kotey aka Alloway, David Odoi Tetteh aka Gbese Tyson, Samuel Takyi aka Ring Warrior, Theo Lopez Allotey and others.
He advised all participants of E Boxing to be disciplined and play well to earn invitation to play at the international level.
"We have approved E Sports and hope participants would use it in the positive direction" he said.
The EBoxing event made possible by WBO Africa Bantamweight Champion Theophilus Allotey attracted a good patronage including International Boxing Consultant Mr. Yoofi Boham, Sammy Heywood Okine aka General One representing the GBA, Jojo Ephson PRO of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), GOC Board member and former GBF President George Lamptey, Ring Announcer Sam Nana Gold Amoah, Kwesi Hayford President of ESports Association of Ghana, Ms. Sarah Lotus Asare of WBC Cares and Wisdom Boxing Promotions and others.

The ESports Association Ghana in collaboration with Wisdom Boxing Promotions, KA Sports TV and Team Theophilus Allotey on Sunday July, 13th organised an outreach programme for boxing lovers who play on the computer or with their phones at Atukpai, near Bukom.
The maiden event was witnessed by personalities like Yours Truly representing the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Jojo Ephson representing the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), International Boxing Consultant Yoofi Boham, Mr. George Lamptey former GBF President and a member of the Ghana Olympic Committee Executive Board, Asafoatse of Atukpai and many others. Other boxers and coaches from different gyms also took part in the exciting programme.
Mr. Kwesi Hayford, President of the ESports Association of Ghana said they often organise community events, but this was special and he is hopeful many people would embrace the sport, as it is an Olympic event and soon winners are going to represent the nation in international competitions which has already begun.
Coach Dr.Ofori Asare of Wisdom Boxing Gym said ESports can take some of the youth from social vices, and make them useful.
Yoofi Boham commended the leadership of both GBF and GBA for backing the E-Sports event. He prayed that the right people come and lead Ghana Boxing so that the nation will occupy its rightful place in world boxing.
Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey, the WBO Africa Bantamweight Champion and UBO Africa / National Super Flyweight Champion in whose honour the programme was organised said as boxer he learns a lot while playing the game and hopes everyone would join and play. He later shared biscuits and sweets to the kids who turned up.

At the end of the event, three people were awarded for emerging the best players; Alfred Kotey - winner (Gold), Desmond (Silver ) and Jacob Thompson (Bronze)
