Bukom Boxing Gym members express gratitude to Boxing Ghana for honouring Coach Kwatelai Quartey

Coaches and members of the Bukom Boxing Gym have expressed their profound gratitude to Boxing Ghana for remembering and recognising them and the great trainer Kwatelai Quartey aka Wutor who is credited with the exposure of many boxers at the 4th Awards ceremony held at the Idrowhyt Events Center.

Assistant coach / Media Organiser of the Gym, Augustus Dodoo said it is very good Coach Wutor was honoured because he is the one who trained Ike Quartey aka Bazooka. Alfred Kotey aka Cobra, James Armah aka Bukom Fire. Joshua Clottey aka Hitter / Grandmaster, Emmanuel Clottey aka The Sleek, Steve Dotse. Anyetei Laryea. Malik Jabir aka Bukom Onufu, Braimah Kamoko, aka Bukom Banku, Joshua Okine aka Bukom Tsatsu, Lartei Lartey aka Bukom Jah, Alfred Tetteh aka Stinging Bee, Odoi Tetteh aka Gbese Tyson and others.

"Wutor is the foundation of our generation at Bukom when it comes to boxing. he is our number one coach" he said.

The Bukom Gym was founded in the 1950s but became redundant until 1976 when Kwatelai Quartey revived it in an open space beforec they moved to their current place.

"We are most grateful to him for what he has done and continue doing because we have more kids who want to box" he said.

According to Dodoo the Bukom Boxing Gym has talent but they lack resources and funds to get modern boxing training equipment. He appealed to people who want them to excel to come to their aid.

Coaches Samuel Quaye and Ayitey also added that the boxers need scholarships to be interested in education in addition to their boxing skills and talents.

"We encourage the boxers to take education serious because that is the future" Quaye expressed.

Coach Ayitey said honouring Coach Kwatelai Quartey is a great step in the right direction and congratulated the organisers of the Boxing Ghana Awards.

In another development, Coach Dr. Ofori Asare described Wutor as a legend who must be remembered and honored for the great role he has played in boxing.
