Joseph Awinongya Jr. dethroned Malachi Georges in the men’s 90 kg (198lbs) at the US National Championships. This means Joseph gets to go to selection camp in hopes of been selected into the Elite (National) team.

This team will be groomed for the 2028 Olympics.

Note about USA selection: All Elite boxers in the team usually have to still prove themselves each year during national championships to stay in the team. Malachi Georges was the fighter in the USA Elite team in 90Kg and competed in Brazil and Kazakhstan World Boxing Cups and the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, UK this year.

Congrats to the 18 year old Jojo who has now won his 26^th nationals title. He was born to Ghanaian parents. His dad was a boxer in Ghana who retired in the USA and decided to go into coaching.
