… Congratulates new WBO Africa Champion Theophilus Allotey For Great Performance against Daniel Gorsh
Mr. Samir Captan, the World Boxing Organisation representative in Africa has advised boxers to fight credible opponents if they want to be recognized by international bodies.
Speaking to Yours Truly in an exclusive interview at his Opera Office in Accra, the ace boxing manager and promoter urged boxers to train hard to win and pray hard to earn opportunity for big events.
He noted that Ghana Boxing is down as compared to the glorious past when Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Alfred Kotey, Nana Yaw Konadu, Joshua Clottey reigned as world champions.
“Now we don’t have world champions because we don’t have the top world class fighters with discipline, dedication and commitment” he expressed.
“Also this ‘Atsiagbeshi’ must stop, it doesn’t bring out the best of boxers, and not pleasant for boxing fans, the promoters and GBA are to be blamed” he said.
Presenting the WBO Africa Bantamweight title to Theophilus Allotey, he noted that as a representative of the World Boxing Organisation in Africa, he tries to identify the best boxers on the continent and give then the opportunity.
According to Mr. Samir Captan, Theophilus Allotey aka Theo Lopez really surprised him when he fought Daniel Gorsh as he did not know him, and his performance was classic and astonishing to beat the gritty champion and collect his title WBO Africa Bantamweight title was marvelous.
He congratulated Team Allotey led by Coach Dr. Ofori Asare, Ms. Sarah Lotus Asare and Coach Eben.
He cautioned the young champion of the Wisdom Boxing Gym against women if he wants to become a real world champion and reign for long.
Allotey who is the Ghana National and UBO Africa Super Flyweight Champion is rated15th at WBO and 4th in Africa. He is number 8 and 9 at IBF and IBO respectively.
He was a member of the national boxing team, representing Ghana at Paris 2024 Olympic Games Qualifiers in Senegal, Thailand, Italy and won bronze at the 2023 African Games held in Accra.
