Mr. Emmanuel Olla Wiliams aka ‘Gas Man’ President of Ghana Tug of War Association (GHATOWA) has disclosed that the MEGHIS Team did not go to the 12th African Tug of War Championship Kimberley in South Africa to watch other countries flags or just to participate, but to make a mark, and they did it marvelously by winning two Silver and three Bronze medals.
A total of eight countries competed and Ghana came second with the host nation picking the overall gold medal.
Team Ghana, represented by Mamfe Methodist Girls Senior High displayed at both club and national levels and were a delight to watch with their expert pulling strategies, despite not using the right shoes and belts that aid in correct and easy pulling.
“Inspite of all the challenges we are very much grateful to everyone who supported and prayed for us to go and return successfully with medals” said Williams said.
The team returned home on Tuesday and presented their medals to the Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) last Friday.
The medals won at Club Level with 24 Teams competing are 500KG – Silver, 560kg - Bronze, 540kg – Bronze, 600kg Mx - Bronze
In the African Nations Championship with Eight Teams at Under 23 Women's 500KG competition, Ghana won Silver Medals while host nation South Africa snatched the Gold.
Tram Ghana has been given the green light by the Ghana Education Service to take part in another international event in the United Kingdom and the Director General. Prof Davies has promised to equip them well before they go.
