Ghana marked Olympic Day 2025 with a vibrant celebration at the Accra Sports Stadium, gathering more than 1,000 students from 20 schools for a day filled with sports, fitness, and Olympic spirit. Organized by the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), the event embraced the global theme “Move, Learn, Discover”, promoting the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.
Participants enjoyed a range of activities including aerobics sessions, Olympic-themed quizzes, and live demonstrations in 21 different sports, such as fencing, taekwondo, judo, athletics, and table tennis. Students had the opportunity to interact with athletes and coaches, sparking interest in various disciplines.
GOC President Richard Akpokavie addressed the crowd, urging Ghanaian youth to embrace an active lifestyle and the values embedded in sport:
“Olympic Day reminds us of the power of sport to bring people together, build character, and inspire a healthy lifestyle—especially among the youth.”
A symbolic Olympic Day Run brought together students, educators, and guests in a fun and energetic show of unity. The Olympic Quiz contest tested knowledge of Olympic history, values, and Ghana’s contributions to the Games, with excited cheers as schools competed for medals and recognition.
The event ended with a call to action: to continue fostering sportsmanship, healthy living, and national pride through sport. Ghana’s celebration this year was not just about honoring the past, but igniting dreams for future Olympians.
