Mamfe Methodist Girls Senior High School (MEGHIS) who returned from Kimberley, South Africa last Tuesday where they participated in the 2025 African Tug of War Championship have presented their silver and bronze medals to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davies.
He congratulated the proud medal winners and advised them also to work hard academically. He cautioned them to be disciplined so that they can contribute positively to society.
In the overall standing, South Africa won Gold while Ghana placed second with Silver.
According to Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams former Youth Director of the Ghana Olympic Committee is President of Ghana Tug of War Association (GHATOWA) the female students did exceptionally well because they were numerically down and lacked the right shoes and belts for the competition but exceled.
He commended the Ghana Education Service and school authorities for granting the opportunity to travel for the international event.
Skipper of the team said they promised to go and not only be counted or watch flags, but bring home laurels, which they did in style.
Present at the ceremony were Mr. Michael Ntow Ayeh, Physical Education Director, Mrs. Augustina Agyeman Koranteng Headmistress of Mampong Presec who was the Chaperon of the team, Mrs. Winnifred Arthur Headmistress of MEGHIS and Ms. Charlotte Hottor PE Mistress and Coach of MEGHIS.
The students were represented by some prefects of the school.
Head Prefect Theodora Clottey expressed her pride and prayed that corporate Ghana will support their sports teams.
Ghana has been invited to another programme in the United Kingdom which the GES has approved.
