President Of AWISA Commends GFA For Organising Football Coaching Course For Inmates Of Nsawam Female Prison

Mrs. Joyce Mahama, President of the African Women In Sports Association (AWISA) has commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for organizing a coaching course for inmates of the Nsawam Prison.

She noted that those who participated in the programme must be blessed and hoped that they will use the lessons learnt for a better life to train others to be better people in life.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) License D coaching course was organised for female inmates at Nsawam Female Prison from January 27 to February 2, 2025.

The historic and innovative CAF License D coaching course for female inmates commenced at the Nsawam Female Prison is not just about football; it is about hope, empowerment, and the belief that everyone deserves a second chance.

Mrs. Mahama who commended the Ghana Prisons Service said is significant and inventive in the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates of Ghana's prisons into society.

30 participants, including 25 female inmates and 5 prison officers, will receive CAF-accredited Licence D coaching certificates if they pass the exams on the final day.

The program is part of the broader GFA Foundation-Ghana Prison Project, which aims to leverage football as a tool for rehabilitation and social change. By focusing on gender equality and empowerment, the initiative seeks to challenge stereotypes and promote the idea that women can excel in sports, regardless of their circumstances. The collaboration between CAF and the GFA Foundation underscores a commitment to using football as a vehicle for social good, paving the way for similar programs in the future.

The course was instructed by Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, Joyce Boatey-Agyei, and Bernice Adutwumwaa, all CAF Women's football instructors.
