Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, are brimming with confidence as they prepare to take on Egypt in the second leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 27.

The Queens head into the encounter with a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg in Cairo, where they outclassed the Egyptians with a spirited display that combined speed, skill, and teamwork. Goals from key attackers Evelyn Badu, Doris Boaduwaa, and Grace Asantewaa sealed the convincing win and gave the team a solid platform to build on at home.

Under the guidance of new Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren, the Black Queens have shown renewed tactical discipline, attacking flair, and confidence. Björkegren, who took charge earlier this year, has introduced a structured, possession-based style that has brought the best out of his players, particularly the midfield and forward line.

“We respect Egypt, but we are focused on our game. The players are confident, and we want to make our home fans proud,” Coach Björkegren said ahead of the match.

The team’s resurgence comes at a time when the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is enjoying strong corporate backing, notably from telecom giant MTN, whose $2 million sponsorship package supports all four national teams — the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets. The partnership has provided critical motivation and logistical support that have improved preparations and morale within the national teams.

The Queens will once again rely on the creativity of Asantewaa in midfield, the pace and finishing of Boaduwaa, and the leadership and vision of Badu as they aim to wrap up the tie in front of a home crowd expected to fill the Accra Sports Stadium.

With a three-goal cushion and renewed belief, the Black Queens are tipped to complete the job and advance to the next round of qualifiers for Morocco 2026.

… The Tornado steps up on the Tennis Court

Stephen Appiah won the Ghana Premier League, Ghana FA Cup, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italia, Turkish Super Lig, Turkish Super Cup and the FIFA U17 World Championship.

He was not named CAF Footballer of the Year, he did not win the FIFA World Cup, African Cup, BBC African Player of the Year and UEFA Cup nor was he named in CAF XI, but he is still the man many people admire.

Ghanaian football legend, Stephen Tornado Appiah is never idle even after completing his illustrious career as a professional footballer.

The man who played football from the streets of Chorkor to Indafa park at Mamprobi, through Bukom before joining Accra Hearts of Oak and traveling to Europe to feature for top clubs in Italy and Turkey. He served the National football team, the Black Stars by good example, leading Ghana to its first ever FIFA World Cup Qualification and glory has found another lovely sports.

The talented, skilful and forceful footballer played as a midfielder for Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Juventus and Fenerbahçe. Appiah was a member of the Ghana national team, which he played for the Black Starlets (winners of FIFA U17 World Cup 1995), Black Satellites, Black Meteors, the Olympic team 2004, and senior level, Black Stars.

He is now a social tennis player and has taken his aces and volleys to a high grade because his technical abilities are so superb and flashy.

He gives much credit to his trainer, popularly known as Rasta who was also a footballer but could not rise to stardom.

The two have trained privately for years and have now come out to challenge and beating some youthful tennis gems.

Reigning over younger tennis players has gingered Appiah with some hope that he must play and inspire others.

So after football, the Tornado. Nii Barnie Appiah from James Town has not given up in sports.

Despite his effective managerial role in steering the Black Stars to their fifth World Cup, he is inspiring young tennis players as well.

Stephen Appiah has taken his tennis lessons very serious and never joke with his training.

Linking up with personalities on the courts has also given him another level of confidence to increase his leadership qualities and may end up in politics or spearheading the Ghana Tennis fraternity.

People have not forgotten his philanthropy and always bless him for his love for humanity.

Now he is being pushed to consider politics and turn his community around.

He has considered all the opportunities but he is gradually building himself and establishing a guide for younger generations not to give up, but always find something to do despite the odds and challenges.

As Deputy Chairman of the Black Stars management committee, he has accomplished the task of qualifying the National football team to the next World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada.

His other agenda is to make Ghana Tennis attractive and encourage more young players in school. to get on the court.

He gives much credit to Rasta for getting him engaged even after football to find a new sporting love.

By playing tennis after football, Appiah has widened his scope and vision of leadership. He has transformed and he knows what he is gaining.

He believes every football star must plan for the future, because one cannot play after some time.

His desire is to help in any form and position to motivate young athletes. .

For Stephen Appiah, he loves to share and give hope to fellow human beings.

He urged sports people not to give up, but keep on trying till they succeed.

He is Deputy Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee who have guided the current Black Stars to another FIFA World Cup Qualification in 2026 in USA. Mexico and Canada.

He attributes the success of the Black Stars to discipline, commitment and professional attitude of players.

He will not reject any role to shape Ghana Tennis and the Ghana Olympic Movement.

The official "Tour du Ghana 2025" is a major cycling event that will take place from November 13th to 24th, 2025, featuring eight stages from the Greater Accra to Eastern, Volta, Ashanti and Oti regions.

According to Alhaji Shabaan Mohammed, Secretary General of the Ghana Cycling Federation, the event, organized by the Ghana Cycling Federation will involve 12 international teams, some from USA, Europe and neighbouring countries like Benin, Nigeria, Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire, while the event is designed to be a mix of sports and cultural exploration.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Omashi TV, he gave details of the programme which starts on November 13 with arrivals.

He expressed that the main official start, which is the flagging of the race will be done on November 15 by the President of the Republic of Ghana and the cyclists will move out of Accra to other regions and end the tour on November 24, 2025.

He noted that the 10^th edition is a special edition so it has been linked to promote tourism so many tourist sites would be visited.

Shabaan Mohammed thanked key sponsors like MTN Ghana, Stanbic Bank Ghana, Promasidor, and Verna Mineral Water by Twellium Ghana Ltd. He acknowledged the support of the Seat of Government (The Presidency), Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and National Sports Authority (NSA).

Ghana’s George Faho Mensah of the Panix Boxing Club in Accra will fight Joseph Hayden of The United Kingdom for the Commonwealth Silver Welter weight title on the 21st Nov 2025 in Doncaster Dome, United Kingdom, Yorkshire, Doncaster.

Joe Hayden, a south paw who is 26 years old is undefeated in 20 fights, while George Faho Mensah 20, from Accra has 11 fights, won ten with one lose.

According to Mensah who is managed by SP Sports Management in Ghana, this is a fine chance to showcase himself to the world.

He said though it will be his first fight in Europe, he is determined to make history and grab the belt, because he needs it badly to prove that he is a champion.

According to Faho, his idols like Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey went out to win, and he can do same.

He was not intimidated by the record of Hayden, but promised to shock him and make him taste defeat.

The highly motivated Faho Mensah is one of the young boxing prospects in Ghana.

His manager, Samuel Darkwa Agyei also thinks this is an opportunity they must grab and utilise with a decisive victory.

Achimota based golfer, Charity Vogel has made a golfing statement at the nation’s premier golf hub after emerging top female winner of the 2025 edition of the All-Star Insurance Brokers Pink Cup Golf Tournament which was played in the nation’s capital. Despite a late huge challenge from some fine amateur golfers on the greens, Vogel maintained her composure and grabbed the main women’s trophy of the 2025 All Stars Insurance Brokers Pink Cup in the presence of her husband, himself a golfer. Another well-known golfer at Achimota, Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah with a handicap of 14 bagged in 34 points for the second ahead of Mary Prempeh. The golf competition drew over 100 golfers from clubs across Ghana and beyond, who all played in support of breast cancer awareness, education, and fundraising for victims and health centers.

Hosted by the Ladies Wing of the Achimota Golf Club, the tournament was held under ideal weather conditions and saw vibrant golfers with most players donning pink to symbolize solidarity with the cause. The 2025 edition of the SAC Super Volleyball Championship has been launched at the GHOne Studios in Accra with 16 teams set to battle for international glory and fame at the Borteyman Sports Complex from November 16–23, 2025.

The launch ceremony attracted dignitaries including the CEO of EIB Network Mr. Nathan Kwabena Adisi aka Bola Ray and the executives of Ghana Volleyball as well as clubs representatives, coaches and players. Also in attendance were media and volleyball enthusiasts.

This year’s tournament will feature 16 elite volleyball clubs, including teams from Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Benin to compete with thr local teams for the ultimate prize.

Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Wilhelmina Asamoah who represented the Minister said the government is focusing on promoting and developing volleyball in the country. "A key focus for us is to developing local content" she said.

"The tournament offers a vital avenue for our young athletes to showcase their skills. And the Ministry is dedicated in supporting young talent to nurture their skills."

"Looking ahead I will like to highlight the importance of the upcoming national sports funding legislation. Once enacted this fund will generate revenue that can be reinvested into our sports ecosystem supporting federation finances and reducing the burden on the government purse".

"Through SVC (Supper Volleyball Championship) I believe that national talents have been raised and today when u talk about Volleyball on the continent that story cannot be completed without mentioning the name of Ghana," said Lawyer George Tetteh, President of the Volleyball Federation.

Founder of the event and an Executive board member of the Ghana Volleyball Commission, Mohammed Awudu Aputeog highlighted the objective and goals of the SAC Super Volleyball Championship which begun at the Ga Mashie Hall of the SSNIT Sports Emporium.

“SAC Super Volleyball Championship 2025 will deliver more than just matches. It will deliver moments, memories, and momentum for our sport. With your support, we are not just organising a tournament — we are building a movement, forging a partnership, and leaving behind a legacy” he expressed.

The Bukom Boxing Gym has presented a pair of gloves to the CEO of CARTEL GROUP Mr. Harry Henry Owoo as a sign to show appreciation for his generous support in making ROAD TO GHANA event which took place at the Accra ports Stadium a success one.

The event involved a boxing show between Ghanaian and French boxers from Boxing Club Drouais and the purpose was to build the boxers ahead of future tournaments like the Youth Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

The Bukom Boxing Club were supposed to engage the Boxing Club Drouais from France but due to the suspension on boxing activities, the IMC of the Ghana Professiona Boxing, Ghana Boxing Federation and National Sports Authority had to come in to save the situation which involved amateur boxers.

Mr. Henry Owoo has been a cult figure in Ablekuma South supporting many activities, especially in health and sports.

He recently organised a football Gala at the Stephen Appiah Turf  which was well patronized, while the annual Cartel Walk is a super event that people do not want to miss.

Meanwhile, the many people of Chorkor, Mamprobi, Korle Gonno and Jamestown have added their voices to congratulate and commend Mr. Owoo for his philanthropic efforts.

The return of professional boxing in Ghana is drawing closer as the Interim Boxing Management Committee (IMC) overseeing the sport’s normalization process reports significant progress.

The IMC’s Medical Sub-Committee has finalized and submitted a comprehensive draft document detailing new medical and safety protocols for professional bouts in Ghana.

The reforms aim to protect athlete welfare and ensure compliance with global boxing regulations, a crucial step toward lifting Ghana’s suspension.

International boxing bodies that welcomed and supported Ghana’s suspension would be pleased with the latest developments. The IMC, which is chaired by veteran administrator and former GBA President Samir Captan, has kept global stakeholders updated on the country’s steady progress, signaling renewed confidence in Ghana’s return to the international boxing fold.

The recently held Ghana versus France International Boxing Contest at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, 19th October, served as a successful test case for the new medical protocols.

The IMC is now reviewing the post-event report to fine-tune operational procedures before professional boxing activities resume fully, possibly by the end of October 2025.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MoSR) are actively guiding the IMC to ensure a smooth completion of the RESET normalization process.

The guidance and partnership underscores the government of Ghana's commitment to restoring the country's rich boxing heritage on a foundation of safety, professionalism, and integrity.

The latest developments have reignited optimism within Ghana’s boxing fraternity, with stakeholders hopeful that the sport’s official comeback is now only a matter of time..

The Women’s Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG) has sent a goodwill message to the Black Queens as they prepare to face their counterparts in Egypt for qualification to the next African Women's Football Championship.

Mrs. Joyce Mahama, President of WOSPAG in the message said she was hoping that the Black Queens will continue with their excellent performance at the last AWCON where they placed third and brought home the bronze medals.

According to Mrs. Mahama the people of Ghana have confidence in the Black Queens that they can do it and beat Egypt by a wide goal margin to make the second leg just a formality.

She urged the players to obey the coach's instructions like they have been doing and cover every grass to make total victory easy.

"We have the players who are experienced as well as new younger players who have the stamina and speed to run over the Egyptians" she noted.

She hailed the team, coach and players who have been nominated by CAF for awards.

Mrs. Joyce Mahama who is also President of the continental body, African Women In Sports Association (AWISA) prayed for fair officiating and cordial relationships among football bodies, teams, officials and fans.

She also commended the GFA and the Black Queens management for organising a Press Conference ahead of the international friendly match against England.

"We need these high level friendly games to raise the standards of our players and officials, we need good sponsorship to motivate and inspire the Black Queens" she expressed.

Mrs. Mahama hailed the GFA President, Mr. Kurt Okraku and all the leaders in the promotions and development of women's football.

She congratulated MTN Ghana for their contribution and advised other companies to do same.
