The death has been reported in Accra on Saturday 29th April, 2023 at the 37 Military Hospital of Madam Alice Naa Lamiley Lamptey 87, mother of former Black Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak Captain and Midfield Dynamo, Adolf Armah aka ‘Rolandanster’.

She worked with UTC for over twenty years, before starting her own business; she was also a devout member of the Nazareth Methodist Church at Mamprobi in Accra.

She was also the mother of Media Practitioner / Sports Consultant, Mr. Sammy Heywood Okine, popularly known in media circles as General One and Theo Tay who is based in the United Kingdom.

According to family sources, funeral arrangement would be announced later.

Emmanuel Shammah Mensah of Accra-based Young Stars Cycling Club outpaced over 50 cyclists to win the 2023 edition of the Aboakyer Festival Cycling Race at Winneba, in the Central Region.

Mensah earned a cash prize of GHC1,500. He also won the overall best of the Inter-Mediate Spring, Long Escape Spring and the Leader of the Aboakyer Race Jerseys respectively.

The one-day 65km event started from the Accra Sports Stadium to Akotia junction and ended at the Winneba taxi rank.

In an interview with the GNA Sports, Mensah expressed joy for his first victory and pledged to win more medals in future.

He said, “I am very happy that today I was able to come out as a victor in the race, the preparations I have gone through wasn’t easy at all and luckily today God has counted my efforts”.

“I am very proud of the win, and I want to use this opportunity to thank all those who supported me especially my coach, team captain and all the Young Stars Cycling riders for their believed in me.

“This is my first win for an official race, and I want to continue so that in future I would be able to win an international competition for myself and my country.

“For now, I don’t do any professional job, my focus is riding, and I would continue with my training when I get back to Accra for the upcoming competitions.”

The President of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA), Mrs Delphina Quaye has hosted an impressive Swimming Championships at the university of Ghana swimming pool for young swimmers on 29th of April 2023.

The aim of the event was to unearth swimming talents for the upcoming 13th African Games to be hosted in Ghana in 2024.

The programme was also to sensitize the general public about swimming as a sport that can give Ghana medals at international competition.

Marlins Swim Team won the competition, which involved 11 clubs participating in 50m and 100m Butterfly, 50m and 100m Breaststroke, 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle, 50m and 100m Backstroke as well as Mixed 50m Medley Relay.

Marlins ammased 17 gold, 23 silver and 13 bronze to place first. Legon Sharks got 17 gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze, while GH Dolphins got 17 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze to place third.

Other teams that took part were Ghana BlueFins, Tema Seals, GH Aquatic Masters, African Sharks Torpedo Swimming Club and KNUST Dolphins.

The event was graced by Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Deputy Executive Chairman of the Local organising committee (LOC) of the 13th African Games, Seth Nti General Secretary of the GSA, Charles Mensah, an executive member, Jackson Abbiw and Mr. Ralph Quaye.

President of the Ghana Swimming Association Mrs. Delphina Quaye who was glad with the performances of the young swimmers that participated outlined plans the association has for talent hunt from the championship.

“I feel elated. I am so happy to see these young ones willing and ready to showcase their talent” she said

“So what we do is we note them, we select them bring them out and we train them or we task their various clubs or coaches to give them the a level of training that will take them to the next level” she added

Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah expressed the LOC’s interest in competitions of this nature with the African Games on the horizon.

“We are interested in such competitions, in such programs because swimming is one of the sport codes for the African games and this is an occasion where talents are unearthed and also where we get our team Ghana to represent the nation” he said

“The LOC is interested in such programs and it is encouraging to note that we have swimmers coming from all over the country to compete” he added.

The Ghana Swimming Association has been organizing a swimming league every month and a speed test every other month at the University of Ghana swimming pool.

Aspiring MP for Odododiodoo, Hon. Alfred Nii Ashie Kotey calls for more investment into boxing

Aspiring Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Hon. Alfred Nii Ashie Kotey who witnessed the signing of three young boxers of the Bronx Boxing Gym by Kurrency Boxing Management last Monday has called for more investment into the pugilistic sport.

He said Boxing is the main sporting business of the people of Accra, and like any other business there is the need for investment to reap better results.

He commended the boxers who have won titles and urged them to train very hard to retain and also venture to move higher to the world ranks.

Nii Ashie Kotey who has trained as a boxer in his youth advised the newly signed boxers to be disciplined, and respect their coaches if they want to reach far in the game.

He hinted that the secret to greatness is humility and urged them to take training very serious.

He commended the organisers of the Ghana Boxing League, but was optimistic that more can be done by other promoters if they partner for big promotions.

Coach Carl Lokko thanked Hon. Kotey for joining the boxers to celebrate.

He also cautioned the boxers not to be dull, but work hard to retain and maintain the standards.

Monday May 1st, 2023 will always be remembered by three boxers of the Bronx Boxing Gym for being lucky to be signed by the Kurrency Boxing Management.

Super Featherweight, Daniel Quaye aka High Tension, Stephen Cofie and Issifu Illiasu Sulley were signed on by Mr. Bright Aboagye at a colorful and impressive ceremony at the Bronx Boxing Gym at James Town.

Mr. Aboagye who is also owner of Gold Mart said he had been in boxing for over ten years, but now wants to be in the limelight, get involved in management and lead to produce more champions.

Speaking to the media at the signing ceremony, he said the head coach of Bronx Gym invited him to the training camp and he identified the courage, resilience, discipline and hunger in the young boxers who are determined to become world champions.

Coach Carl Lokko said it is very difficult for a potential good boxer not to have a manager or support, because he needs to be encouraged and motivated to keep on training and waiting for the opportunity to realize his dream.

He was happy that Bronx Gym products are winning Championship title Belts as on Sunday, Daniel Gorsh retained his National Super Bantamweight Title, Joshua Tetteh Laryea became the new West African Super Welterweight Champion and John Laryea the Expensive Boxer became a two times WBO Africa Featherweight Champion. Good old Kpakpo Allotey was also on track to winning ways.

Aspiring Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Hon. Alfred Nii Ashie Kotey who witnessed the signing advised the newly signed boxers to be disciplined, and respect their coaches if they want to reach far in the game.

He noted that one of the secrets to greatness is humility and urged them to take training very serious.

Spiritual leader, Numo Klan who graced the occasion thanked God for the lives of the boxers and prayed that they are protected and groomed to become champions.

John Abaja Expensive Laryea Celebrates In Style After winning WBO Africa Featherweight title with a stoppage of Solomon Martey at the Idrowhyte Events Center.

Laryea who is sponsored by the Asamoah Gyan Foundation celebrated his birthday with a 6th round TKO over Martey who was very aggressive but John landed more to break his face and the medics could not stop the blood flow than call it a win for the Bronx Boxing Gym boy.

The Gyan Foundation presented a cake to the champion who was also promised a car if he wins another title.

Present to support in cutting the cake were his coach Carl Lokko, Sempe Manste, Nii Adotey Obuor, son of HE John Dramani Mahama, former IBF champion Joshua Clottey and others.

In the duel for the West Africa Super Welterweight Championship Tetteh Laryea also of Bronx beat Emmanuel Quaye of Cabic.

The 11:11 Beach Club at La in Accra will be the venue for an international Pillow Fighting Championship coming up on May 28, 2023.

According to the President of Pillow Fighting Championship in Ghana, Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams the new sport has attracted support and attention, hence some corporate bodies are willing to invest as it is also a tourist product.

He said the winners from all places where the game has been held are going to participate like Mamfe, Odorkor, Bukom and Chorkor.

He thanked American President and founder of Pillow Fighting Championship, Mr. Steve Williams for his support and motivation which has inspired people in Ghana.

11:11 Beach Club is a new resort facility at La which hopes to support in the organization of Beach Sports, Leisure and other entertainment activities to raise the profile of Ghana in tourism.

The first boxing programme for this year at Idrowhyt Events Center comes up this evening featuring the WBO Africa Featherweight Championship between John Abaja Laryea aka 'the Expensive Boxer' and Solomon Martey.

Laryea is managed by Sammy Anim Addo of Bronx Boxing Promotions who has promised to get his boxer into the international mix, while Martey boxes from the Seconds Out Gym.

Box Office Sports poster boy, Alfred Lamptey aka 'Show Time' of the Black Panthers Gym who just returned from South Africa with his trainer, Coach Eben Killer Adjei will face Nathan Kakololo, a Namibian, as rising star National Bantamweight Champion Michael Decardi Nelson and WBO Africa Super Welterweight Champion, Patrick Allotey take on Nigerians, Lukman Akinolugbade and undefeated with 14 bouts won, Suleiman Jafaru respectively.

Daniel Salasi Gorsh will defend his National Super Bantamweight Title against Michael Tagoe.

The fight of the night will be the fight between two Chorkor based boxers; Wisdom trained Emmanuel Quaye of Cabic Promotions and Jacob Tetteh Laryea of the Bronx Boxing Gym.

A female boxing show will climax the night which goes for 100gh for VIP, 50gh at Ring side and 20gh for the Popular Stand.

Ghana midfielder Kudus Mohammed has been named in the Dutch Eredivisie team of the season due to his exceptional performances throughout the campaign.

Despite his team, Ajax, currently sitting in third place, 11 points behind leaders Feyenoord, Kudus has been a standout player at the Johan Cruyff Arena, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists across all competitions.

Kudus' contribution of 11 goals and 2 assists in the Eredivisie has earned him a prestigious spot in the team of the season, with a few matches still left to play.
