Ghanaian youngster Ernest Nuamah has shared his excitement after receiving the Odartey Lamptey Future Star award at the 2023 Ghana Football Awards.

The 19-year-old picked the accolade following an outstanding campaign in the Danish Superliga with FFC Nordsjaelland.

Nuamah's performances saw him earn his first Black Stars invite, making his debut in the AFCON qualifier against Madagascar.

The Olympique Lyonnais target is currently with the Black Meteors in Morocco for the Africa U23 Cup of Nations.

"Embracing the legacy of the legendary Odartey Lamptey, it's an immense honour to be recognised as the Future Star at the GF Awards. May this be a stepping stone, not just for me but for all youngsters who dare to dream & redefine the boundaries of the beautiful game. This spotlight ignites my determination to honor the past, live up to the present & shape the future," he wrote on Twitter.

The teen sensation scored Ghana's first goal at the AFCON U23 on Sunday as the Black Meteors defeated Congo 3-2.

He is expected to star in the game against Morocco on Tuesday night.

Black Meteors coach Ibrahim Tanko expressed his delight at having Black Stars coach Chris Hughton in Morocco assisting the technical team for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Hughton landed in Morocco before Ghana's first game and is providing technical support to the team in their bid to secure a spot in next year's Olympic Games in Paris.

Hughton was present at the Moulay Abdellah Sports complex in Rabat when Ghana claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Congo on Sunday.

Tanko acknowledged Hughton's presence and highlighted the significance of his involvement with the team.

"We are happy to have him here. He is with us in the hotel. Definitely, we are speaking each day," Tanko stated after the match. "So, yes, he is the head of the senior national team. These boys are playing to get there, so I am happy that he is here."

Ghana initially dominated the game, securing a comfortable 3-0 lead. However, two late goals from Congo added tension to the match's closing moments.

The Black Meteors' victory has put them in a promising position in the group standings, alongside their next opponents, Morocco.

A win in their next match would all but secure Ghana's spot in the semi-finals and bring them a step closer to their Olympic aspirations.

“Everything is quite good and our objective for this competition is to qualify for the Olympic Games and also to win the trophy”.

The former Hearts of Oak striker also stated that playing in that Olympic Games was the dream of every player because most international stars have previously participated and they were determined to work to ensure they secure a spot to play in Paris next year.

“It means a lot to me to participate in the Olympic Games because it is one of the biggest competitions in the world.”

“It’s a competition that has seen a lot of stars participate in over the years”, Barnieh stated.

Ghana will take on Morocco in their second Group A game on Tuesday with kick-off scheduled at 20:00GMT.
