Margaret Owoo, a 14 year old member of the national female boxing team, the Black Hitters was among the personalities honoured at the prestigious 2925 Boxing Ghana Awards which took place at the Idrowhyt Events Center on January 3, 2026.
She was not present at the event, but her fans were very happy to receive the Best Amateur Female Boxer of the Year.
She represented Ghana at the 2025 African Youth Game in Angola and won bronze at her first international outing.
Margaret Owoo fought at the Girls 48 kg category and exceled though she could not grab the ultimate. She won two tough bouts.
She was presented with a gas stove donated by B J Wise Electronics, a trophy and certificate from the organisers, boxinghana,com.
Chair person of the Organising Committee of the Awards, Ms Sarah Lotus Asare said the girls who love boxing must be encouraged and the Awards Scheme is aimed at addressing that issue.
She noted that there is no motivation for girls to box and if they are inspired more girls will join the Black Hitters.
Ms. Asare who is a member of the new Ghana Boxing Federation Board said they are making efforts to bring in more girls to box and represent the nation.
“The Awards is complementary in gracing their efforts to motivate them to keep on” she expressed.
She won Best Manager of the Year.
Other young boxers from the Wisdom Boxing Gym, Bright Okoe won the Youth Amateur Boxer of the Year, while Philemon Lomotey got the Most Promising Male Juvenile Boxer Award.
Elite Amateur Boxer of the Year went to Desmond Pappoe of Jamestown Boxing Club.
