CAA President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum calls on GOC ahead of 24th African Senior Championship in Accra

Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) on January 7, 2026 paid a courtesy call on the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee ahead of the African Athletics Championship slated for May.

He was accompanied by officials of the CAA and they expressed confidence in Ghana to organise a marvelous competition.

Ghana will host the 24th edition of the Africa Senior Athletics Championships from May 12 to 17, 2026, in Accra,

Malboum noted that Ghana hosted a very successful competition during the 13th African Games and he believes there are still fresh facilities for the CAA event.

President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Lawyer Richard Akpokavie who warmly welcomed the Athletics delegation said he is always concerned about athletes’ welfare especially their facilities and remuneration and he is very optimistic that the Ghana Athens Association will deliver again.

"We have to put all hands on deck to organise a memorable and successful world class event" he stated.

Mr. Bawa Fuseini. President of the Ghana Athletics and Deputy Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee assured that Ghana will deliver.

He prayed that countries will present their best athletes to make the Championship competitive.

The Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Lawyer Mohammed Muniru assured the CAA that the competition in Ghana will be a success as there are many people in Ghana who love Track and Field.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ghana and the CAA was later signed at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, after Malboum had visited the University of Ghana Sports Stadium at Legon.
