Sammy Heywood Okine wins Boxing Ghana Media Personality And Best Boxing Writer Of The Year, 2025 Awards

Ace sports journalist Sammy Heywood Okine has been voted Best Boxing Writer and Media Personality of the Year 2025 from an overwhelming voting process.

The two prestigious awards in the 2025 Boxinghana Awards were presented by MP for Odododiodoo, Hon Alfred Kotey Ashie and Ekow Asmah at an impressive ceremony held at the Idrowhyte Events Center on Saturday January 3, 2026.

Others who won were Kapon - Best Boxing Fan, Best Promoter – Legacy Rise Promotions, Best Professional Boxer - Theophilus Allotey, Best Match Maker - Augustus Dodoo and Joseph Martey - Coach of the Year.

The experienced media guru, Mr. Okine who is head of sports at Omashi TV and associate editor of boxinghana as well as Ghana Country Director of African Media Sports Ventures and contributor to websites; moderghana.com, newsghanaonline.com, ultimatesportsghana.com, asaaseaban.com dedicated the awards to his family, friends and colleagues in the media, especially young journalists and bloggers.

The Press Attache for Team Ghana at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games where Samuel Takyi won the only bronze medal for Ghana and Africa said boxing is one sport that has taken Ghana to places and the government needs to invest regularly and better.

Currently with Omashi Media, he diligently served for eight years as Communications Director of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and was also in the same capacity at the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

Sammy Heywood Okine’s show on Omashi TV, The Big Fight Night every Friday evening keeps on gaining and giving recognition and much publicity to boxers and boxing officials.

His craft of creating humour and valuable rich experience in dishing out historical facts and figures adds touch and education as well as entertainment to the programme.

He really deserves the awards as a pillar in the industry and a motivation to the youth. He is a legend in a different sports intellectual class.
