Medal hopeful Amadu Mohammed did not get the favour of the match officials as he was handed a unanimous loss to Asilbek Jalilov of Uzbekistan in the 54 kg round in his one sixteenth draw at the 2025 IBA World Championship in Dubai, UAE.

Earlier Ebenezer Ankrah had lost his chance to qualify to the quarter finals.

Both Amadu and Ankrah won one and lost one fight at the tough Championship that attracted 400 boxers from 108 countries. Emmanuel Mawuli lost his first fight.

Ghana did not go to the Championship with a coach as Akai Nettey who was supposed to lead the team got injured in an accident on a different mission with Besesaka Boxing.

Experienced Botswana coach had to sacrifice to support Team Ghana aka Black Bombers.

  • Mohammed Amadu won a gold medal at the All-African Games in 2024. He aims to repeat this achievement and inspire his teammates to win medals again this year.
  • Ebenezer Ankrah participated in the 2024 IBA Youth World Championships, advancing to the Round of 32 before his elimination from the competition. This year, he’ll aim to use that experience to secure a medal.
  • Emmanuel Mawuli, having already begun his professional career, has a record of 13-0 with 10 KOs which indicates his potential in the sport. With the advantage of professional experience, 20-year-old will be bringing his best on board.

Ashaiman based Sampson Segbedzi will take on Ibrahim Diallo for the IBF International Junior Middleweight title on December 20, 2025, at the Legon Sports Stadium in Accra, Ghana .

Sampson Segbedzi, a Ghanaian boxer, is looking to claim the vacant title, while Ibrahima Diallo, from Belgium, aims to add another victory to his 12-0-2 record. Segbedzi, with a 10-0-0 record, has recently won the Ghana Boxing Authority Welterweight Title by defeating Habib Kehinde Giwa via unanimous decision. He also holds the UBO Welterweight belt.

The fight is set for 154 lbs and promises to be an exciting clash between two talented boxers.

Segbedzi has just returned from Canada where he has been training for this bout which is the biggest opportunity in his career as a boxer and he cannot let the chance slip by.

He trains at The Gym owned by Nii Gonti Adjor 1aka Nii Adama Addy who is contesting for the Ghana Boxing Federation first vice president position.

Nii Gonti was very instrumental in Joseph Agbeko winning the IBF world Bantamweight Title and he believes Segbedzi has what it takes to become a champion because of his strength, confidence and good corner.

The bout is an under card of the Legacy Rise Sports Promotions and Matchroom bill in Accra.

Other bouts involve Ghanaians Jonathan Tetteh against Freezy Macbones for the African Light Heavyweight title, John Laryea versus Holy Dorgbetor for the IBF Africa Featherweight title and Theophilus Allotey going for the WBO Global super flyweight title against Jayr Raquinel.

National champion Mohammed Abdula of Fit Square gym also fights for the West African Cruiserweight title against Eradajaye.

The National Recreation and Wellness Program (NaRWP) collaborated with NKOO Bright Future Consult to host a successful football gala in Ablekuma on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

The event featured a thrilling match between Ga West Municipality and Ga Central Municipality, with recreational activities organized by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation adding to the excitement.

Residents of Ablekuma enjoyed various activities, including aerobics sessions, throw-and-win games, and traditional games like Oware, Ludo, Draft, and cards.

The event drew prominent personalities, including Hon Emmanuel Tobbin(Member of parliament for Anya- Sowutuom) Hon. Sedem Afenyo(MP, Amasaman,)

Dr. Betty Krosbi Mensah, National Coordinator of NaRWP, expressed her satisfaction with the event, stating that it aligned with the program's goal of promoting physical and mental well-being through recreation.

The program aims to shift Ghana's focus from professional sports to everyday health and wellness, promoting regular exercise, balanced diets, and routine medical check-ups. Following the conclusion of the recent Functional Fitness engagements in Egypt, the President Mr. Charles Owusu Ansah is proud to announce a collaborative initiative to form a Confederation of African Countries in Functional Sports.

This brings together Kenyan,, Angola, Rwanda and Tanzania to join the already existing African Nations in Functional Sports.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in the advancement of functional sports across the African Continent.

"By uniting our collective expertise, resources and shared vision, we aim to promote excellence, standardize competition structures and create broader opportunities all athletes, trainers, technical officials (judges) and member institutions" said Owusu Ansah.

He expressed that further details will be communicated in due course

Charles Owusu Ansah FSL Ghana interacted personally with Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Director General. General Administration of specialized federations and sports committees and Baligh Abu Aaid, Vice president of the Egyptian federation of fitness and street workout as well as President of the Libyan federation, Fauzi.

According to Mr. Charles Owusu Ansah, President of Functional Sports League Ghana (FSLG), the national championship on 20th and 21st December at the Karikari Brobbey park in Dansoman, Accra.

He urged very fit people to come and compete and also learn new fitness tricks.

Mohammed Awal Yaro recently represented Ghana in Egypt as his reward for winning the national competition last year.

Theophilus Nii Kpakpo Allotey will be in action at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday December 20, battling in the WBO Global Super Flyweight division against Jayr Raquinel, the Asian Boxing Federation super flyweight champ, (18-2-1, 14 KOs) of Philippines.

Allotey who is undefeated as a pro in 11 fights holds the WBO Africa Bantamweight title as well as the UBO and National Super Flyweight titles.

He was recently named the EMY Africa Sports Personality pf the year 2025, after missing the SWAG Boxer of the year.

The wisdom boxing gym product who represented Ghana at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Qualifiers in Senegal, Thailand and Italy says he has learnt a lot in the sport.

He went to Ethiopia to face the great Zambian Africa Flyweight Champion in a special ABC and IBA initiative. Zambia’s Patrick “Baddo” Chinyemba and Ghana’s Theo “Lopez” Allotey fought in an eight-round IBA Africa flyweight title fight at the Adwa Museum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, before moving to a training camp in the Cayman Islands.

Acording to Coach Asare, they are ready for the world title but it is necessary and important that they pass through the processes by beating other champions around the world.

“Allotey is in a class of his own and I also want to prove a point in Ghana Professional Boxing” he said.

Also known as Lopez, Allotey is fighting on the card of Matchroom and Legacy Rise Sports Promotions which has other big fights like Freezy Macbones versus Jonathan Tetteh and John Laryea versus Holy Dorgbetor, Abdula and Sampson Segbedzi are also on the bill as well as  Richards versus Azeez (both are not Ghanaians but great boxers).

The fight of the year is coming late on 20th December 2025 at the UG Stadium at Legon. It is a Legacy Rise Sports Promotions bill featuring some of the crack boxers in the country.

Freezy Macbones also known as Seth Gyimah has marketed himself well to have the opportunity to fight for the Ghana National Super Middleweight title against holder, Jonathan Tetteh otherwise called Worldwide.

Both boxers and their supporters have argued and bragged about their heroes and the date is set.

Even when Freezy Macbones arrived at the airport from Europe for the bout, Worldwide and his fans were there to welcome him with hot words at their first faceoff.

This is a fight worth watching as Macbones is unbeaten with 11 fights, and Tetteh who also has 10 wins as a pro got the chance to represent Ghana when they both competed in the amateur ranks for a place at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Qualifiers.

Jonathan may come on with power but if Seth takes his time and boxes instead of fighting, he will get the upper hand and win.

Ghana Black Bombers at the ongoing IBA Men's championship in Dubai do not have a coach but 2024 SWAG Boxer of the Year, Amadu Mohammed won against his opponent, Manoj Kumar from India in a thrilling 5-0 performance.

The referee stopped the contest in round 3 as pride of Black Panthers gym, Ebenezer Ankrah of Ghana demolished his Guinea Bissau opponent Felix Mendes Junior at the ongoing IBA Men's Boxing Championship in Dubai, UAE.

Both boxers who are without a coach have advanced to the round 16 in their respective weight divisions.

The fourth edition of the annual Cartel Charity Health Walk was held last Friday with many people from all walks of life taking part.

The Walk started from the Mamprobi Post Office through some principal streets of Jamestown to Accra Central turning at the Independence Square at Osu and back through the GPO, Akotolante, Korle Bu, Korle Gonno to Mamprobi Girls School Park where the Stephen Appiah Astro Turf is situated.

The Walk attracted some former footballers like fitness enthusiast, Sam Johnson who played for the Black Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak. He said the programme is laudable and should be sustained and improved with other activities.

Joseph Tagoe, aka Bobby Short, a skilful player who played for Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics noted that the event is a tradition and must be maintained and celebrated every year in honor of Henry Owoo who also loves football and staunch fan of Accra Hearts of Oak.

He announced his Foundation football match at the Appiah Astro Turf on 20th December.

Randy Abossey, who is now into training young footballers, said the Cartel Charity Health Walk has come to stay and everyone should contribute by attending to make it a festival or carnival in future.

Ruben, a Rugby player expressed that the Cartel Charity Health Walk is more than a rally of well meaning people who are concerned about health. He commended the addition of free health screening and registration of National Health Insurance.

Others who are joining the Walk for the first time said the really enjoyed themselves as the exercise was good.

The Cartel Charity Health Walk was supported by a number of media houses with Omashi TV leading in the promotion and media marketing.

The Cartel Foundation and Cartel Events & Rentals have organized the fourth successful massive charity health walk in Accra on Friday December 5, 2025.

The descent, gentle and well organized event started from the Mamprobi Post Office to the Independence Square and back to Mamprobi ending at the Girls School on the Stephen Appiah Astro Turf.

The walk attracted prominent and popular personalities including Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Nii Amasah, Sam Johnson, Bobby Short, Yours Truly and others.

Mr. Henry Harry Owoo, the founder and CEO of Cartel Foundation who started and finished said it has been worthwhile as the aim is to create awareness on fitness and physical training as well as healthy living.

He was very happy with the numbers that turned out and prayed that the fifth edition which comes on next year would be bigger and better.

“You know how we do it at Cartel, we are creating awareness and consciousness on health as I want people to live good and be happy. I am very much impressed with this fourth edition and I pray the fifth will be bigger next year. I thank every participant and all the big men and women who came around to exercise and have fun” he told Yours Truly.

Cartel Foundation has been supporting social interventions and providing health and medical support.

There was free health screening and registration of National Health Insurance.
