35-year-old Achimota based professional golfer, Alfred Kwame Nuamey played some splendid strokes of golf at the nation’s premier course to emerged winner of the West Coast PGA Championship. Against all odds Nuawey called off the challenge of 82 other golfers for the championship top prize cash of ghc4500 after four days of competition at Achimota. The golf championship which is the three-flagship organized by PGA Ghana forms part of the buildup tournaments to the prestigious 2023 road to Damang. Nuawey, a former scratch golfer joined a host of players on the final day of the tournament on the greens and played some brilliant shots especially at the final hole to victory.  Speaking to a section of the media after a championship, Alfred Kwame Nuamey expressed his excitement on winning the championship and believed that his feverish preparations had really paid off. “ I have been practicing for several weeks for this well tournament  and many followers of the sports especially those at Achimota wondered why that training session,, I was however focus and finally I am now the winner of the West Coast PGA Championship”.

Another Achimota golfer, Lucky Ayisah who was tagged as one of the hot favorites for the championship gave his all on the last two days and went home with the second prize cash of ghc 3, 800 while Quarshie Atiso beat the likes of Vincent Coffie, Biggie Chibvri and Yaw Barry for the third placed after four days on the greens. For his efforts Atiso was presented with a cheque of ghc 3300 as his prize. Fifteen other main professionals who placed between 4th and 18th positions were all given specific cash prize. Good old Victory Brave Mensah dominated at the senior category of the championship and smiled home with an amount of ghc 2200 ahead of Robert Allotey and the treasurer of the PGA, Dawudu Mahama who finished second and third respectively.

Four other golfers in the senior division also received cash prize after the competition. Speaking after a short closing ceremony, the tournament director of the PGA, Rev Akwasi Prempeh described the championship as very successfully and praised the golfers for their performance and discipline during the competition. He expressed the gratitude of the PGA to the management of the Achimota Golf Club for the continuous assistance to the professionals.

The next and final PGA golf championship before the Damang Open in the Western region will be staged at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono in the month of November.

We are using our resources very judiciously - Ghana Boxing Federation President

President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), DSI Bernard Quartey has disclosed that it has not been easy getting financial support for the national boxing teams, so they have been using all funds that come to their coffers very wisely.

Speaking to Yours Truly on the Olympic Solidarity awarded by the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), he said it was meant for a competition in Cameroun, but they decided to keep it and use it for the African Olympic Qualifiers and other up coming programme.

He expressed that there are series of boxing events for the senior and junior teams as well as the females, but when they are cash strapped they cannot go so when ever they get some form of support, they try to manage.

“I am the one who spends most of the money and at times some of my executives, especially Vice President Dauda Fuseni support but it has not been easy, so when we spend and there is money available we try to refund” he explained.

According to the GBF President the team has not broken non residential camp since the Commonwealth Games until recently put in residential for the African Olympic Qualifiers,

He thanked the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and all who supported the Black Bombers and Black Hitters before they flew to Dakar for the 2024 Olympic Games Qualifier.

He noted that with the number of days training seriously under experienced coach Asare and his staff, the team is fully prepared and he believes the boxers from Ghana will do well in Dakar,

He hinted that the presence of Seth Gyamfi aka Freezy Macbones in the team has also raised the morale and confidence of everyone, so they are charged to perform their best.

“We have an image and reputation to protect as the best boxing nation in Africa, so we will not let the nation and our admirers down, We are going to do our best in Senegal and qualify for Paris 2024 Olympic Games” he said.

The 12 athletes representing Ghana are Janet Acquah, Ramatu Quay, Anatu Mohammed, Sarah Apew, and Ornella Sathoud.

The rest were, Theophilus Allotey, Abdul Wahib Omar, Joseph Commey, Alfred Kotey, Seth Gyimah, Jonathan Tetteh, and David Bawah Akankolin.

The tournament starts from September 9th to 15.

Ghana won the Group E qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Central African Republic 2-1 at the packed Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The epic match had most fans on the edge of their seats, with Central African Republic dictating the pace of the game in the first half. The visitors scored the opener in the 25th minute through Louis Mafouta. Mafouta who beat goalkeeper AtiZigi with a nice dribble was assisted by Amos Youga.

The Black Stars struggled to create chances decent chances in front of the expectant home fans while the visitors had a field day.

West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus proved his magic when scored a darling free kick to equalize for Ghana in the 25th minute.

Coach Chris Hughton made some changes as Lyon new signing Ernest Nuamah replaced Red Star Belgrade winger Osman Bukari, which changed the pattern of  the game.

Nuamah displayed his passes, capitalizing on a precise move for fellow substitute Antoine Semenyo to strike from close range.

In the other Group E game, Angola drew goalless with Madagascar. Ghana tops the group with 12 points after six games. Angola is second with 9 points after six games.

As the senior national football team, the Black Stars get ready to battle against Central African Republic for a slot at the next African Cup of Nations Tournament; the fever of football has gripped many people in the Garden City of Kumasi aka Oseikrom.

People of all walks of life have gone for their Ghana colours which they hid for some time when the team was not performing to their satisfaction.

With the Ghana Football leadership under dynamic young visionary Kurt Okraku who said the love of the Black Stars must come back, people have obeyed him and have changed their minds to support the Black Stars again.

Former captain of the team, Stephen Tornado Appiah is in Kumasi to inspire the players.

He was at their last training before the game and told the players to go all out and collect the maximum three points.

He urged them to be very strategic in playing to qualify for both the African Cup and World Cup.

Meanwhile, Isaac Tetteh also called TT Brothers has advised the players not to under rate their opponents but see them as equals and play very hard.

He tasked the coach, Chris Hughton to be very firm and control the players, until victory is attained.

The national male and female boxing teams have successfully landed in Dakar, Senaegal after making a transit in Lome, Togo.

News reaching Yours Truly is that none of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) board members made the trip but the PRO is there together with experienced coaches Dr. Asare and Rashid Williams aka Believer.

The LOC of the tournament will take care of the accommodation and feeding of the pariticiating countries.

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) gave the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) $10,000 before they went for the tournament to qualify for Paris 2024.

Friends of Boxing and the Boxing Writers Associationof Ghana wish the teams well.

Meanwhile only the winners, gold medalists will qualify for Paris 2024 at the African Qualifier, and there is another opportunity at the World Qualifer in Italy later in the year.

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) also wishes the Black Bombers and Black Hitters all the best.

Mr. Isaac Tetteh of TT Brothers fame has urged the senior national team, Black Stars to prove that they are the men to win the next African Cup by playing their hearts out to win convincingly when they clash with Central African Republic (CAR) in the Group E 2023 African Cup Qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The CEO of Pure Joy FC said this is the time for the Black Stars to redeem their image so they should not under rate their opponents and feel big because they play in big leagues with big clubs.

The TT Brothers boss who is a keen football fan said the Black Stars must be focused and determined to succeed.

The charged them to respect their opponents, but march them boot for boot, be faster than them on the ball and win convincingly to bring back the love and support they have missed over the years.

He also advised Coach Chris Hughton and his technical staff to show their leadership qualities and be in full charge and control of the team.

"This is the time for coach Hughton to prove that he is in charge of the team, and must not allow himself to be controlled by anybody. He should make sure he is the boss in the dressing room and on the field of play" he said.

According to Mr. Tetteh, the Ghana Black Stars are very capable of beating their opponents and they must come out with good victory with massive goals.

"Other Ghanaians who played for the Black Stars did it in the past, this is the time of Kudus, Jordan, Williams, Semenyo and the rest, they must show that they can also do it for Ghana, we are solidly behind them and wish them victory" he expressed.

He appealed to Ghanaians to rally behind the team and support them totally to win.

The National Boxing Teams, Black Bombers (Males) and Black Hitters (Females) have shown appreciation to all who in diverse ways came to support them in their preparations towards the 2024 Olympic Games.

The Teams who have to go through the 2023 African Qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal have received donations in the form of cash, kits, water, food, soft drinks and provisions.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is taking care of the air fares and per diems, while the Ghana Olympic Committee gave them $ 10,000 for their registration and accommodation in Dakar.

Dr. Ornella Sathoud, who is based in the USA joined the team after her wonderful display and victories in her preparations.

She has been appointed leader of the Black Hitters and she thanked all who have been supporting the National Boxing Teams.

Five female and seven male boxers left Accra via Lome, Togo to Dakar, Senegal on Wednesday morning.

Ghanaian forward Samuel Tetteh has reacted after sealing a move to Azerbaijani club Gabala SC.

The former WAFA winger joins the Red and Blacks after two years in Turkey, where he played for Adanaspor and Birdimirspor.

After his unveiling, the former Black Stars winger took to social media to share his joy whiles he express readiness as he begins a new adventure.

“A New Chapter Awaits ???? #GodIsTheReason” he tweeted.

Gabala, which made its Azerbaijani Premier League debut in 2006, has achieved second place in the league three times and has won the National Cup twice, in 2019 and 2023.

Tetteh has eight caps for the Black Stars of Ghana, scoring a goal for the senior national team.

The former Ghana U20 star started his career abroad in Austria, playing for Red Bull Salzburg, LASK and SK St Polten. He also spent time on loan in the United States, where he played for Red Bull Salzburg.

The shorts and vests were received on behalf of the team by the Director of Communications of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

Seven male and five female athletes along with officials have left Accra to Dakar, Senegal to compete in the African Boxing Championships where they will attempt to book their tickets to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

Black Bombers and Black Hitters have promised to qualiy to the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The team is led by experienced Coach Dr. Ofori Asare.
